Tyler’s eyes narrowed slightly at her response. “Lifesaver?” He asked, his voice tinged with a hint of annoyance.
Olivia, noticing his change in expression, quickly clarified, “Sophie always talks about him like that. She says he’s her brother’s hero or something.”
Tyler’s face softened slightly, but there was still a cold edge to his gaze. “He was at Sophie’s party last night. Did you interact with him?”
Olivia hesitated for a moment, trying to piece together the fragmented memories from the night before. “I… I think I might’ve bumped into him, but I don’t remember much. I was pretty drunk.” She paused, feeling a bit awkward. “Why do you ask?”
Tyler didn’t immediately respond, his eyes focused on her for a moment longer than necessary. “Just making sure you’re alright,” he said, his tone a little less harsh than before. “You should rest more. I’ll have breakfast sent up.”
Olivia nodded, still unsure of the gravity of the situation. As Tyler walked out of the room, she let out a small sigh of relief. Despite the tension, she couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that lingered in the pit of her stomach. The mention of Claude had stirred something in her mind, though she couldn’t quite place what.
She lay back against the pillows, her thoughts swirling. Tyler’s protective nature, the coldness in his tone, and the strange, lingering tension from the night before all mixed together in her mind. She felt guilty for causing him so much trouble, especially when he had been nothing but kind to her.
But then there was Claude. The image of his smile, the way he had calmly handled everything despite the awkwardness of the situation, kept coming back to her. Why had he stayed so calm? Why did he help her when he barely knew her? And what did Tyler really think of him?
Her mind was racing, but the exhaustion from the previous night was starting to catch up with her. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to clear her head. Despite her confusion, she couldn’t shake the feeling that things were shifting—changing in ways she wasn’t sure she was ready for.
As she drifted back into a light sleep, the soft sound of a knock on the door broke her thoughts again.
“Come in,” she called out, expecting it to be the maid or someone from the house. But to her surprise, it was Tyler again.
He held a tray in his hands, with breakfast neatly arranged on it. He set it on the bedside table without saying a word, his gaze lingering on her for a brief moment.
“Eat something,” he said softly. “You’ll feel better.”
Olivia nodded quietly, not sure how to respond. As Tyler turned to leave, she called out to him.
“Tyler,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. He paused at the door, looking back at her. “Thank you… for everything.”
Tyler nodded, but his expression remained unreadable. “Just don’t do it again.”
The door clicked shut softly behind him, leaving Olivia to her thoughts once more. She stared at the breakfast tray, still feeling the weight of the previous night’s events pressing on her.
