Chapter 56

Queenie stopped abruptly as she was about to leave the room. She turned around, pouting, “Grandpa, I haven’t finished my homework yet…”

She’d rather do anything else than make tea for Nash.

Walter snorted, a hint of annoyance in his tone. “When have you ever done homework?”

Queenie was enrolled at a private school owned by the family, where she was treated like royalty. She hardly ever did any homework.

Nash, sitting back with his legs crossed, spoke casually. “I’d like some Earl Grey tea.”

Queenie shot him a glare. “I see you’re taking advantage of the situation, huh?”

Walter’s expression turned cold. “Don’t be rude!”

With a huff, Queenie reluctantly pulled out the tea leaves to make the tea. As she opened a drawer, something caught her eye—the laxative that Kai had used on his subordinates. A sly grin spread across her face.

Nash, deep in conversation with Brian, suddenly heard Queenie giggling to herself. He raised an eyebrow, sensing something was off.

Queenie soon approached, carrying two cups of tea. She placed one cup in front of Nash and the other in front of Brian. Without missing a beat, she went back to the kitchen and prepared two more cups—one for her grandfather and one for herself. She then sat down beside him, her eyes fixed on Nash with a hint of mischief. “Dr. Calcraft, this is top-grade Earl Grey tea that the governor gave to my grandfather. You should try it.”

Nash glanced at the steaming tea, noting its scalding temperature. “It’s still very hot. I’ll let it cool down a little before I drink it.”

Although his words were calm, he could already smell the telltale scent of the laxative in his cup. It was clear—his tea had been drugged.

Queenie, unbothered, leaned back on the sofa, playing with her phone, waiting for the tea to take effect.

Brian’s phone rang, and he answered it, speaking quietly with his clinic. It seemed he had also received an invitation to the Lees’ event.

Walter hummed thoughtfully. “No wonder people from the Northern Territory have been showing up in Jonford. They must be here for Old Lee’s birthday banquet.”

“Who’s that?” Nash asked, curiosity piqued.

Brian lifted his teacup and, after blowing on the surface of the tea, explained, “Drake Group used to belong to the Skyes of Capiton. They passed it on to the Lees, and now they’re one of the top families in Jonford.”

Before Nash could respond, Walter added, “Old Lee was the king of the Northern Territory’s armies. He commanded thousands of troops.”

Nash pressed his hand to the coffee table, his inner energy surging. In a split second, his teacup was swapped with Queenie’s, the motion so swift that even Walter, who had been watching, didn’t notice.

Nash took a sip from the cup, a smile curling on his lips. “Old Lee’s birthday sounds like quite a lively celebration.”

Walter nodded, a smile forming on his face as he continued. “He’s the father of the chairman of Drake Group, and a retired army king. His connections are vast—those who attend his birthday are people of great repute.”

As Queenie watched Nash drink the tea she had prepared, a smug expression crossed her face, pleased that her plan seemed to be working.

Brian leaned in and whispered, “Grandmaster, you’re welcome to come with me tomorrow.”

Nash waved him off with a chuckle. “I must decline. How could someone like me—just a bumpkin—attend such an important event?”

Queenie couldn’t resist a jab. “At least you’re self-aware.”

Walter, looking irritated, shot a glare at his granddaughter.

Queenie stuck out her tongue playfully and took a few sips from her own tea.

Just as the tension simmered, a nurse’s voice echoed from the intercom on the table. “Boss, the madam is awake!”
