Chapter 55

The sight of Nash easily suturing the skull left everyone in stunned silence. Bone was supposed to be hard, yet he handled it as though it were soft foam.

The shock quickly faded, though, since they were already reeling from the moment when Nash had opened the old lady’s skull with just a scalpel. Craniotomies typically required specialized cutting tools, yet this man had performed the procedure with fluid precision.

“Administer the analgesic,” Nash ordered calmly. “Once this bag of blood is finished, switch to regular saline.”

He removed his bloodied gloves and approached Walter with a tray containing the white, wriggling bugs. “All the parasitic bugs have been removed from the old lady’s body. If all goes well, she should wake up tonight.”

“R-Really?” Walter’s voice shook, and his eyes welled with tears.

Nash nodded. “I can wait for her to wake up before I leave.”

Walter’s faith in spending a hundred million dollars on this treatment was justified. Although Nash was a renowned doctor who had saved countless lives, it still took him three hours to locate all the bugs inside her body, such was the extent of the infestation. The process had drained much of his energy, but the results spoke for themselves.

“Parasitic bugs…” Walter murmured in disbelief. “How could they have been inside my wife’s body?”

He had heard of such bugs from others, but this was the first time he had seen them firsthand. Even Miracle Doctor Tanner had never encountered anything like this, and Walter was left wondering how his wife had been infected.

Nash, however, wasn’t concerned with such questions. His job was to treat diseases, not investigate the causes. Why the bugs were there was of no interest to him.

Walter, the wealthiest man in Jonford, no doubt had many competitors in the business world. It was easy to speculate that the harm that had befallen his wife might have been orchestrated by one of his rivals—or perhaps even someone within the family.

With the treatment done, Walter led Nash and Brian out of the room. As they entered the living room, every member of the Watson family shot Nash sharp, distrustful glances. His methods were unorthodox, and not everyone was convinced by his approach.

Nash, unfazed, sat boldly on the sofa, waiting.

Walter waved his hand dismissively. “You all can go about your business. It’s enough that I stay here with Dr. Calcraft.”

Despite Walter’s words, Nash knew that Walter wasn’t leaving him to his own devices. He had already noticed that among the Watsons were many formidable experts—some of whom were high-ranking grandmasters. If the madam didn’t wake up, Nash wouldn’t be able to leave so easily.

Though he hadn’t paid much attention to these grandmasters yet, Nash had come here as a doctor to earn money, not to start trouble. He would stay until the madam woke up, then leave.

Kai, standing nearby, fixed a cold stare on Nash. “If anything happens to my grandmother, I’ll chop you into pieces,” he threatened ominously.

Queenie, arms crossed, added, “You’d better pray she wakes up…”

Walter’s voice cut through the tension. “Enough, both of you.” His eyes glinted with authority. “No one is to offend Dr. Calcraft until my wife wakes up. If she does, Dr. Calcraft will be off-limits.”

Just as the room simmered with these unspoken threats, an old man in a suit entered, carrying an invitation card.

“Sir, the Lees have sent someone with an invitation.”

Walter took the card, read it quickly, and smiled. He turned to Kai. “Tomorrow is Mr. Lee’s 80th birthday. Go and prepare him a generous gift.”

Kai nodded and quickly left with his entourage.

Queenie’s eyes lit up. “Grandpa, I want to go tomorrow too.”

Walter smiled warmly at her. “You and Kai can come with me.”

As Queenie stood to leave, Walter added, “Queenie, before you go, please make a cup of tea for Dr. Calcraft.”
