Chapter 59

A man stood at the gate, wearing a bowler hat, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. His expression was grim, and he looked every bit the part of someone carrying a heavy weight.

Seemingly sensing Nash’s gaze, the man slowly lifted his head and removed his sunglasses, meeting Nash’s eyes.

It was Stellar.

Nash walked over quickly, a smile on his face. “Is the Warden here?”

Stellar nodded. “The Warden arrived today, but he’ll be attending Mr. Lee’s birthday banquet tomorrow.”

Nash raised an eyebrow. “Then why did you come to see me so early?”

Stellar pulled out a check for one hundred million dollars and handed it over. “I already know who you are. This is your reward for protecting the Warden.”

Nash was taken aback. “The Warden has so many experts around him. Does he really need my protection?”

As an overlord, the Warden was always surrounded by powerhouses. So why was Stellar spending money on Nash?

Stellar’s voice lowered. “We received intel that someone from the Blood Fiend Organization is planning to assassinate the Warden tomorrow.”

“Blood Fiend Organization?” Nash’s expression shifted slightly.

In the dark web, there was a leaderboard even more notorious than the assassin leaderboard—the blood leaderboard. The assassin leaderboard ranked professional killers, but the blood leaderboard listed the top ten killers from that very list. The lowest-ranking killers on the blood leaderboard were still formidable enough to be at the top of the assassin leaderboard.

The Blood Fiend Organization was founded by those top killers. The organization was known for its brutal efficiency, capable of assassinating even heads of state—so long as the price was right.

Seeing that Nash was momentarily lost in thought, Stellar took out a cigarette, lit it with a match, and blew out a ring of smoke. “Are you scared?”

Nash accepted the check without hesitation. “That word doesn’t exist in my dictionary.”

Stellar chuckled, puffing another smoke ring. “I’ll pick you up at six tomorrow morning.”

With that, he turned and walked toward the Rolls-Royce parked on the side of the road.

“This isn’t exactly easy money,” Nash muttered to himself, shoving the check into his pocket as he walked slowly back toward his apartment.

When he reached his door, something unusual caught his eye. There were fresh fingerprints on the fingerprint lock.

Most people would have overlooked this detail, but Nash, once a top-tier assassin, never missed a thing. The fingerprints were slender—likely Hera’s.

After entering the apartment, Nash lay down on his bed, casually glancing behind the curtain from the corner of his eye. “Come out. Your feet are exposed.”

Hera stepped out from behind the curtain, looking mildly annoyed. “Can’t you pretend you didn’t know?”

She slid her chair over to the bed, sitting at the computer table and crossing her legs. “Nash, my grandpa has allowed you to work in our company.”

Surprised, Nash asked, “Why the sudden change of heart?”

Hera smiled coquettishly. “My parents had a long talk with Grandpa before he agreed.”

Nash chuckled. It made sense. With Baroque now working with Drake Group, Hera’s family’s standing in the old man’s eyes had naturally risen.

“Also,” Hera added, “Mr. Lee sent three invitations to our family for his 80th birthday tomorrow!” She pulled an invitation from her bag, waving it excitedly. “You can come with us.”

The Lewis family was overjoyed to receive the invitation. Hera, especially, was thrilled—the Lees were one of Jonford’s wealthiest families.

She knew, of course, that the only reason the Lees had extended the invitation was because of Baroque’s partnership with Drake Group.

Nash leaned back, hands behind his head. “I’ve got other things to do tomorrow.”

Hera frowned. “What could be more important than attending Mr. Lee’s birthday banquet? Many important people will be there. It’ll be an honor if you’re lucky enough to meet even one or two of them.”
