Chapter 68

Hera couldn’t suppress her laughter. “Should I help you get his number?”

Skadi blushed fiercely. “If you can get his number, I’ll be your humble servant.”

Hera glanced at the man in the mask. Coincidentally, he was looking in their direction too. His chilling gaze made her heart skip a beat.

Hera swallowed nervously. “No… he’s so intimidating.”

Skadi shook Hera’s arm, desperate. “Come on, Rara, help me—”

Hera stared at her friend, wide-eyed, as though she were speaking to an alien. This woman, who was always talking about killing and fighting, was too scared to ask someone for their number? And now she was trying to act cute?

They’d been best friends since college, and Skadi had always protected Hera since graduation. This was the first time Skadi had asked her for a favor, and no matter what it took, Hera was determined to make it happen for her.

Taking a deep breath, Hera steeled herself. As the group of people began walking toward them, she stepped forward, holding out her arm to stop the masked man.

Before she could say a word, the cold muzzle of a gun was suddenly pressed against her temple.

“Stellar, mind your manners!” the Warden barked.

If Nash didn’t react, it meant there was no immediate threat. Pointing a gun at an ordinary citizen was entirely inappropriate.

Realizing his mistake, Stellar quickly stepped back, lowering the weapon. But the damage was done—Hera had gone pale from shock, and Skadi nearly fainted from the scare.

Who were these people? Why did they have guns?

Skadi shot a worried look at her grandfather, and only then did she realize she might have just gotten herself into some serious trouble.

Nash glanced at Hera, his expression unreadable. He couldn’t for the life of him figure out what this foolish woman was up to.

“Well… uh… could I get your number?” Hera stammered, her mind going blank as cold sweat began to trickle down her back.

She’d resolved that even if it meant risking her life, it would be worth it for Skadi’s happiness.

Grant frowned and sneered, “Who are you? Do you know who you’re talking to? Aren’t you going to back off?”

Zakariah winked repeatedly at Hera, but she paid him no attention.

The Warden, who had been watching the scene unfold, shot Grant a look so sharp that the man immediately shut his mouth.

Hera’s hands were trembling uncontrollably now, and the tension felt worse than walking up to the richest man and slapping him in front of everyone.

Nash’s voice broke through her panic, laced with mockery. “What’s the matter? Got a crush on me?”

His voice, muffled and distorted by the mask’s voice-modulating system, sounded dull and robotic. Not even his master—or Hera—would be able to recognize it.

Of course, his master could easily recognize him by his aura alone. But that was a different story entirely.

Hera fumbled with her phone, unlocking it before handing it to Nash. He glanced at the screen, where his own photo was displayed.

When his gaze shifted to Skadi, he noticed her staring at him intently. The moment she realized he was looking, she flushed and quickly averted her eyes.

So, Hera was asking for his number on Skadi’s behalf.

Nash muttered under his breath, “Idiot.”

With that, he turned and strode toward the front door of the estate, his confidence unwavering.

The Warden shot Hera an odd half-smile before hurrying to follow Nash.

As Zakariah finally found a moment to stand directly across from Hera, he muttered in a low voice, “Girl, did you have guts for breakfast? Do you have any idea who they are?”
