Chapter 28

Herman frowned as he recalled that he hadn’t seen Hannah this morning.

“Hannah went to pick up her nephew yesterday and got into a car accident on the way back,” Hubert explained softly.

“What?” Herman’s expression shifted, panic rising in his chest. “How are they doing now?” he asked, his voice laced with urgency.

Hubert wiped his eyes, his voice thick with emotion. “They both… died. The driver responsible has been caught, and we’ve already taken care of Hannah’s funeral arrangements.”

Herman sighed heavily, his face falling. “Hannah’s worked for our family for over 20 years. Now that this has happened, you all can’t treat her family poorly.”

“Don’t worry, Dad. We’ll take care of everything,” Hubert reassured him.

Rooney, sitting silently beside them, shifted uncomfortably. “Hubert, didn’t my younger brother and sister pay 140,000 in advance? I’ll make sure she gets 210,000 later,” Hubert added gently.

Rooney muttered under her breath, “How can a life be worth so much? The driver’s insurance should handle it. Why should we pay?”

Herman’s brows furrowed in disapproval. “What are you mumbling about?” he asked sharply.

Helena, glancing nervously at her grandfather through the rearview mirror, quickly intervened. “Mom said she’ll transfer the money immediately…”

She knew her mother often spoke without thinking, and that such remarks would only provoke the old man. It was obvious to her that Herman would be upset by those words.

Herman’s expression softened slightly, but his mood was still tense. “Hubert, call Mr. Zoel and sell the villa in Royal Bay,” he instructed, his voice steady but firm.

Hubert’s face lit up with joy, but he quickly masked his excitement. “Dad, it’s hard to come by a villa in Royal Bay. Since you’ve already purchased it, why don’t you leave it to Helena and Kai after their wedding? It’ll be a great home for them.”

Herman paused, his mind turning over the idea. He had learned that Helena and Kai were together, and the thought of his granddaughter marrying into the Watson family brought a sense of pride. If Helena wed Kai, their family could also rise in prominence.

His face softened as he smiled. “Alright, do as you wish, then.”
