Chapter_125

Olivia stood there, feeling the weight of the moment press down on her. The sterile white walls of the hospital seemed to close in, amplifying the anxiety she already felt. She didn’t know why, but her mind kept drifting back to the conversation she had with Tyler the night before—the uncertainty, the unspoken tension. She had wanted to get a check-up for so long, but now that they were here, a new wave of doubt washed over her.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm inside her. She wasn’t sure why she felt so on edge, especially with Tyler right there. Maybe it was the fact that they were here for her, and that made everything feel even more real.

The sound of footsteps broke her from her thoughts. A nurse appeared at the door, giving her a polite but detached smile. “Ms. Olivia, we’ll call you in shortly.”

Olivia nodded, the smile she returned feeling more like a mask than a reflection of how she truly felt. She shifted from one foot to the other, her hands gripping her bag tightly. She wondered if Tyler was anxious too, or if he was just acting as he always did—composed and detached, in control of everything around him. Was this all just routine for him? Or was there something else, something unspoken between them, that she hadn’t fully understood yet?

After what felt like an eternity, the door to the procedure room opened, and Tyler stepped out. He looked fine, but there was something in his eyes that made Olivia pause. A quiet intensity. He didn’t say anything at first, just looked at her for a moment, as if weighing something.

“Ready?” he asked, his voice low and controlled, though Olivia could detect the slightest edge of concern behind the calm exterior.

She nodded, but as she followed him down the hallway, her thoughts were racing again. Was this check-up going to change everything? Would it give them answers, or just raise more questions?

Once back in the car, the drive back felt even longer. The quiet between them was heavy, neither of them speaking, both of them lost in their own thoughts. Olivia glanced out of the window, trying to make sense of her emotions, while Tyler remained mostly silent, his face unreadable.

Finally, Tyler broke the silence. “I don’t want you to worry too much about all of this,” he said quietly, his voice softening for the first time. “Whatever happens, we’ll figure it out together.”

Olivia glanced at him, her heart fluttering despite the unease that still lingered inside her. “But… what if we can’t?” The words came out before she could stop them, the vulnerability creeping into her voice.

Tyler met her gaze, his expression softening even further. “Then we’ll try something else. We’ll find another way.”

She wasn’t sure if she believed him, but the sincerity in his voice gave her a small measure of comfort.

For now, she decided to hold onto that—just for a little while longer. She didn’t have all the answers yet, but maybe, just maybe, they would figure it out together.
