Chapter_262
Olivia felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her as she sat at the table, the weight of the morning’s events hanging heavily on her. Despite her grandmother’s kindness and the concern from Ana, all Olivia could think about was the uncertainty of the situation. The baby. The scan. The tests. It all felt too overwhelming to process in one sitting.
She wanted nothing more than to retreat into her room and escape the flood of thoughts. Tyler noticed her discomfort, and he gently placed his hand on her shoulder, giving her a reassuring squeeze.
“Let’s go upstairs,” he said softly. “You’ve been through a lot today.”
Olivia nodded, grateful for his understanding. She stood up slowly, her legs feeling unsteady, and allowed Tyler to guide her back to their room. Once there, she sank into the bed, feeling the cool sheets against her skin, but it did little to calm the whirlwind inside her.
Tyler sat beside her, his presence grounding, though it didn’t completely chase away the unease gnawing at her insides. He took her hand and squeezed it again. “Olivia, I know this is hard. It’s okay to be scared. But we’re in this together, every step of the way.”
Olivia’s eyes filled with unshed tears, her fears bubbling to the surface. “What if something is really wrong with the baby, Tyler? What if it doesn’t make it? I can’t… I can’t bear the thought of losing it.”
Tyler’s expression softened, and he leaned in, his forehead resting against hers. “We don’t know anything for certain yet. The doctors are just being cautious. Whatever happens, I’ll be here with you. For you and for the baby.”
His words, though comforting, couldn’t quell the storm of worry in her heart. What if they were just trying to shield her from the truth? What if they were preparing her for something much worse than she could imagine?
“I feel like I’m losing control,” Olivia whispered, her voice trembling.
Tyler brushed a strand of hair from her face and looked at her with deep concern. “You’re not losing control, Olivia. You’re just scared. And that’s okay. It’s okay to feel like this right now. We’ll take it one step at a time, and we’ll face whatever comes together.”
The warmth of his words settled around her like a fragile blanket, but Olivia couldn’t escape the constant ache in her chest. She squeezed his hand tighter, needing the connection, but her thoughts kept spiraling back to the unknowns.
Later, when night fell, the house became quieter, and the weight of the day’s events seemed to settle around them. Olivia lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, her thoughts swirling endlessly.
Tyler, sensing she wasn’t asleep, softly spoke, “You’re still awake?”
She nodded, even though he couldn’t see her. “I can’t stop thinking about everything.”
Tyler sighed, his voice full of understanding. “I know. It’s hard. But try to rest. The tests will tell us more soon, and we’ll have answers.”
“I’m just so scared,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t want to lose it. I don’t want to lose everything I’ve started to care about.”
Tyler paused, then pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her. “You won’t lose me, Olivia. You won’t lose the baby. We’ll get through this together, one step at a time. And no matter what, I’ll be right here with you. Always.”
His warmth and the steady beat of his heart against hers gave her some comfort, but the doubt still lingered in the back of her mind. She wanted to believe him, to trust that things would work out, but the fear of the unknown was suffocating.
“Tyler,” she said quietly, her voice heavy with emotion, “what if it’s too late? What if there’s nothing we can do?”
Tyler’s grip tightened around her, and he kissed her forehead gently. “We won’t know until we do the tests. Until then, all we can do is be strong for each other. That’s all we can control.”
Olivia closed her eyes, trying to calm her racing mind. The night stretched on, each minute feeling like an eternity. But she held on to Tyler’s words, finding a sliver of hope in the promise that no matter what happened, they would face it together.
