Chapter_275
Olivia stood there, feeling a sense of unease in Maisy’s words. It was as though the older woman’s affection for her was sincere, but there was also an unspoken expectation that Olivia hadn’t fully grasped yet. She wasn’t sure what Maisy meant by “you wouldn’t say such things after you give birth to the baby,” but the implication weighed on her.
Maisy’s words made her feel small, like there was something she still didn’t understand about this family, their dynamics, and her place within it. Maisy might be fond of her, but Olivia couldn’t shake the feeling that she was somehow still being tested, judged by standards she wasn’t fully aware of.
“Thank you, Grandma,” Olivia finally said, her voice soft. She wasn’t sure if Maisy would understand her true feelings, but she nodded, hoping it would be enough. She wished she could say more, express how conflicted she felt, but for now, she stayed quiet.
Maisy patted her hand again and smiled. “Take care of yourself. I’m sure you’ll understand everything soon enough.”
The words lingered in the air, and Olivia felt a mix of gratitude and confusion. Was Maisy simply being protective of her, or was there more behind her words? She didn’t know how to interpret it, but the sense of being caught in between conflicting loyalties lingered in her chest.
As Maisy walked away, Olivia’s thoughts turned back to Naomi. She hadn’t spoken to her in days, and the tension from yesterday’s incident with Hillary still hung heavy in her mind. Maisy might have tried to assure her, but the weight of the family’s dynamics wasn’t something she could ignore.
Sitting down in the living room, Olivia grabbed Tyler’s phone once more, debating whether or not to reach out to Naomi. But with her phone still broken, there was no way to contact her directly. She had been unable to reach out the night before, and now, without her own phone, it felt like a barrier had been placed between her and everyone she cared about.
She remembered her conversation with Nina earlier. Focus on your health. Everything else is out of your control, Nina had said. But that didn’t stop Olivia from worrying. She couldn’t just sit by and let things unfold without trying to help, even if Tyler had told her not to get involved.
At that moment, she knew she needed to reach out. She grabbed a pen and paper, quickly writing a message to Naomi, hoping she would find a way to contact her soon.
Naomi, I’m thinking of you. I know things have been tough lately, and I want to talk when you can. Please take care of yourself. I hope we can catch up soon.
