Chapter_202
The golden sunlight glinted off the polished gates of the Snyder Estate as Felicity’s Ferrari came to a graceful stop. Nash, Angelica, and Felicity stepped onto the manicured driveway, their spirits lifted by the warm afternoon.
Angelica inhaled deeply. “I can’t believe I’m finally captain. Thank you both for everything.”
Felicity waved her hand dismissively. “Sagen’s Deputy Chief Inspector and a rising star in Jonford—don’t sell yourself short, Captain White.”
Nash offered them both encouraging smiles. “It’s been an honor working with you. Now, let’s celebrate properly.”
They passed under the towering gold-lettered sign—Snyder Estate—and approached the front entrance. A team of discreet staff greeted them, smiling at Felicity’s confident bearing.
Inside, the foyer was cool and spacious. Marble floors stretched beneath a crystal chandelier. Felicity led them down a corridor lined with modern art into a sunny garden atrium, where a simple yet elegant table was set for lunch.
Angelica’s eyes lit up at the spread: lightly toasted focaccia, heirloom tomato salad, delicate smoked salmon canapés, and a pitcher of iced jasmine tea. Nash took in the scene with approval. “Perfect choice.”
As they sat, Felicity poured the tea. “I wanted something fresh—something to cleanse the palate after the past few days.”
Angelica raised her glass. “To new beginnings—and to justice served.”
Nash and Felicity clinked their glasses with hers, then drank deeply.
Moments later, the quiet hum of estate life enveloped them. In the distance, a fountain tinkled; a gentle breeze stirred the olive trees overhead. For the first time in weeks, none of them spoke of explosions, poisons, or clandestine mercenaries. Instead, they shared light conversation: Felicity teasing Angelica about office politics, Angelica recounting her earliest days as an inspector, Nash promising to visit Sagen again—under more peaceful circumstances.
Between bites of heirloom tomato and sips of jasmine tea, they allowed themselves to savor the calm. The Snyder Estate’s lush gardens and elegant halls felt like a sanctuary—proof that even after the darkest nights, daylight would return.
As the final note of the tea’s fragrance drifted away, Nash looked at his two colleagues. “We’ve accomplished much, but there’s still work to do. Jonford is safer, but the world… is never without shadows.”
Angelica nodded, determination in her eyes. “Then let’s be the light that dispels them.”
Felicity smiled, raising her glass once more. “To the team—wherever justice calls, we will answer.”
They drank, the setting sun painting the garden in warm hues. In that moment, they knew their bonds were stronger than any enemy, and their resolve unbreakable—ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
