Chapter_279
Helena’s voice rang out with frustration and anger, her eyes narrowing as she glared at Kai. “Didn’t you ask Kai to come?” she snapped. Despite Kai’s fall from grace, she refused to give up on him. She believed that, together, they could weather the storm. She would stand by his side, and in time, he would realize her value and bring her back into the fold of the Watson family.
Hugh, who had been basking in the luxury of the evening, laughed heartily. “We only invited him over for some entertainment!” His words, dripping with mockery, were joined by the uproarious laughter of Xavier and Taka. Taka, still nursing a wound wrapped in gauze over one eye, winced as the laughter strained his injury.
Kai clenched his fists, the weight of the humiliation bearing down on him. His voice was cold, his pride wounded by the taunts, but there was still fire in his words. “I may not be part of the Watson family now, but I still have some connections. I know you guys are going to deal with Nash. I can do my part!”
Everything that had happened to him—his fall from grace, the loss of his status—had been set in motion by Nash. Kai would not let him slip through his fingers.
Winnie’s sneer was sharp, cutting through the air like a knife. “Mr. Kai, do you think we need your help?” His gaze was condescending, his tone dripping with disdain.
The Green Bamboo Association was an unstoppable force, with seven Juggernauts, a thousand Energy Cultivation Realm martial artists, and a hundred martial arts grandmasters under their command. Such power could challenge even the gods themselves. For Winnie Enders, the Hooligan Juggernaut‘s grandson, the presence of Kai was nothing more than a source of amusement.
“But,” Winnie added with a wicked smile, “if you can get your girlfriend to have some fun with me, we’ll let you stay for dinner. How about that?”
Helena’s eyes flared with fury, and without thinking, she spat the words, “You ruffian!” Her voice quivered with disgust. “You should go back and have fun with your grandmother!”
It was too much. The humiliation. The audacity of Winnie. But even as she spoke, the room fell silent.
Without warning, Kai backhanded Helena across the face. The slap echoed through the room, the shock of it freezing everyone in place. Helena stood there, stunned, her hand flying to her cheek as she looked at Kai in disbelief.
“Kai… you…” The words caught in her throat, her eyes full of hurt.
The room erupted with laughter, Winnie roaring with mirth. “Come here, little lady! Come and make me feel good!” he shouted, his voice full of lecherous glee.
Helena’s eyes filled with tears as she looked at Kai, her heart breaking. How could he stand there in silence while she was humiliated? How could he hit her? The cold realization set in—he had chosen to let this happen. A deep stab of betrayal twisted in her chest. She couldn’t stay. Not like this.
Tears streamed down her face as she turned to Kai, her voice a soft whisper. “Then let’s leave. Let’s not stay here!”
Kai didn’t respond immediately, his gaze distant as if trapped in his own thoughts. It was chilling to Helena. Was this truly what he wanted for her? To watch her be used like this?
Felicity, who had been silent until now, spat on the ground, her voice thick with contempt. “Scumbag! How disgusting!”
Olivia, ever the observer, sighed helplessly. Nash had given Kai a chance to redeem himself, but now it seemed like the opportunity had slipped away. She had no right to speak in this room, not in front of these powerful figures, but the situation was slipping further out of control.
Winnie, emboldened by the chaos, stepped forward and grabbed Helena‘s arm, dragging her toward the bedroom with an amused chuckle. “Let me go,” Helena demanded, trying to pull away from him. But Winnie, his martial arts cultivation at Stage Six of the Energy Cultivation Realm, was far too strong.
Before she could break free, he effortlessly lifted her into a princess carry and began making his way toward the bedroom, laughing as if this were all just a game.
Felicity’s anger burned like a wildfire. She clenched her fists, her mind on the verge of exploding. She was about to lose control, but before she could make a move, she saw Kai grab a wine bottle and rush forward, determined to stop Winnie.
But it was too late. Two of Winnie’s bodyguards stepped forward, knocking Kai to the ground with brutal force. They began raining punches and kicks on him, the sound of blows landing sickeningly loud in the room.
“Kai! Stop! Stop it! Please stop hitting him!” Helena cried out, rushing forward to try and stop the beating. Despite everything, she still cared for Kai, still clung to the hope that he might redeem himself.
But her pleas fell on deaf ears.
And then, just as the situation reached a boiling point, a voice rang out from outside the door, cutting through the chaos.
“Mr. Calcraft is here!”
Xeno’s voice carried a sense of grandeur, and the room seemed to pause, as if waiting for whatever was to come next. Could he be the savior they were all hoping for?
Would Xeno’s arrival shift the tide of the evening, or would it be too late for those who were already caught in the web of the Green Bamboo Association’s power?
