Chapter_222
Kai wasn’t naïve—he knew his grandfather wouldn’t harm him. The warning to stay away from Simon wasn’t a threat; it was protection. He understood that clearly.
He didn’t harbor any deep loyalty toward Simon Lane. In truth, Simon was merely a useful piece in his larger plan to strike back at Nash. But now that the hornet’s nest had been stirred, Kai had no intention of sticking around.
A quiet exit abroad seemed the most prudent move.
“When did you think of that, Kai?” Helena’s eyes widened in surprise, her entire face glowing with delight.
She had been looking forward to the afternoon boxing match, eager to watch Wanda crush Bianca in the ring. But compared to the thrill of an overseas trip with Kai, even that excitement paled. This was the perfect chance to deepen their relationship.
Kai gently tilted her chin and planted a light kiss on her lips.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while,” he said softly. “There’s an investor meeting for one of my overseas companies in a few days. I’ll take you with me—introduce you to a few new faces.”
From across the table, Duncan lazily swirled his wine and chuckled. “What a coincidence. I’m heading abroad soon too—planning to pick up my sister. She’s graduating.”
Duncan was a shrewd observer. The moment he heard Kai’s plan, he understood. Kai wasn’t just traveling for business—he was creating distance from the chaos they had stirred. The storm forming around Nash was far too dangerous to face head-on, especially after the coordinated assault involving the six Juggernauts.
Getting out while they could was the smart play.
Simon narrowed his eyes at the two of them, sensing exactly what was going on.
“Gentlemen, don’t you think this is a little unfair?”
It all clicked now—his grandfather’s cryptic phone call, the warning to involve the others. Simon had personal scores to settle with Nash, but Kai and Duncan? They hated Nash just as much—and yet now, they wanted to flee, leaving Simon to take the fall alone.
Kai raised his glass and smiled. “Mr. Lane, we appreciate your help with our little vendetta. Once I return, I’ll treat you to a feast at the Chateau Hotel.”
Helena and Duncan clinked glasses in unison, echoing the toast.
Simon gave a cool smile, lifting his own glass. “That call earlier was from my grandfather. He told me hiring the six Juggernauts cost us nine hundred million.”
The implication was heavy.
If Kai and Duncan wanted out, they’d each have to cover three hundred million.
Duncan took a sip of his wine, thoughtful. Howard’s tactics were unmistakable—an old master at the art of entrapment. He had likely contacted Duncan as well, dragging both him and Kai into the web with Simon.
Kai narrowed his eyes, turning his gaze toward the garden beyond the pool, silently waiting for Duncan’s response.
Simon leaned back, smirking faintly. “The Hidden-Ghost Juggernaut is leading the charge. I can give her two hundred million. The remaining hundred will go to the other five as a parting bonus.”
He pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and switched to speaker mode.
A cold, crisp voice answered. “What is it?”
Kai and Duncan exchanged glances. The caller ID confirmed it—Wanda York.
Simon spoke smoothly. “Let’s call off this afternoon’s boxing match. Our objective’s been met.”
Wanda’s tone sharpened. “Is this some kind of joke?”
“I’ll give you fifteen million,” Simon added quickly.
There was a pause on the line. Then Wanda responded, blunt and direct.
“Deal.”
Before another word could be said, Kai’s voice cut in. “I’ll pay the three hundred million.”
His tone was icy, controlled—but the fury behind it simmered just beneath the surface. Skadi’s injury wasn’t enough. Not for him. Nash deserved far worse.
“What three hundred million?” Wanda asked, confused.
Simon quickly ended the call.
The nine hundred million had never been real—it was a figure Simon had fabricated. The truth was, the six Juggernauts weren’t mercenaries. They moved at the behest of a favor the Martial Arts Association president owed to Simon’s grandfather.
Simon turned to Duncan, wearing a knowing grin.
“Mr. Duncan… your move?”
