Chapter_256
Helena stood frozen, her eyes locked on the security guards as their nonchalant expressions settled into a quiet, knowing judgment. Her voice trembled with disbelief as she snapped, “You’re telling me Mr. Watson froze Kai’s villa? How is this possible?” The very foundation of her plans, her leverage in Royal Bay, was gone in an instant.
One of the guards, seemingly enjoying the drama unfolding before him, grinned. “You’d better call the police. If you’re unsure of how to, I can help you with that,” he said, pulling out his phone with a playful air.
Helena’s stomach dropped. The villa, once a symbol of Kai’s power and privilege in Royal Bay, was no longer his. The weight of the loss crashed down on her. How could she compete with Hera now? With no access to the villa, how would she maintain any kind of control over Kai?
As if mocking her disbelief, her phone buzzed incessantly. Messages kept flooding in. Helena’s hands shook as she checked each notification. Her heart nearly stopped when she saw what they were—bank cards frozen. Three of them. Cards that held over 150 million dollars in assets—money that had been stored in her name, money that had kept her afloat. The reality of the situation was suffocating.
“What… What on earth is going on?” she gasped, staring at the screen in disbelief.
Beside her, Kai groggily mumbled something incoherent, still intoxicated and unaware of the devastation unfolding around them. Helena, still holding him up with one arm, fumbled for his phone with her other hand. As she opened the messages, she saw that his bank accounts, too, had been frozen.
Her body went cold. She looked at Kai, who was far too drunk to comprehend the magnitude of what had just happened. He mumbled, his eyes barely focusing, “What’s going on, Helena?”
Just then, Kai’s phone rang, the caller ID flashing “Queenie.”
Helena’s hands trembled as she answered the call, her voice tight. “Queenie…?”
“Kai!” Queenie’s sobs echoed through the phone. “Grandpa froze all your assets! My parents have taken my savings and sent me to a school dormitory! They’re only giving me three thousand a month as allowance!” Her voice cracked with frustration and helplessness.
Helena’s heart sank. She could hear the pain in Queenie’s voice, and it only deepened her own sense of loss. “Queenie, why… Why would your grandfather do this?”
“Because of Nash…” Queenie’s voice quivered, the words hanging heavy with the weight of something more.
Before Helena could probe further, the call ended abruptly. She stood there, staring at the phone in her hand, her thoughts swirling in a storm of confusion. Nash… had something to do with this?
Meanwhile, at the Zabels’ villa, Nash’s phone rang. He answered with a calm, familiar voice. “Yes, Hera?”
“Nash, my uncle’s daughter will be arriving at Jonford Airport soon,” Hera said, her tone bright with excitement. “Both my parents and I are unavailable. Can you pick her up for us?”
“Alright, I’ll head there now,” Nash replied, a smile tugging at his lips. He knew this was an important request, and it was one he’d be happy to fulfill.
“Love you!” Hera added, her voice bubbling with affection before the line clicked dead.
As Nash stood up, Xeno, his ever-present assistant, followed him out of the villa, ready for whatever the day would bring.
Just as they were about to leave, Nash’s phone rang again. This time, it was his mother, Lauren.
“Mom,” Nash greeted warmly, though his tone shifted slightly when he noticed her hesitation.
“Nashy, my niece has just arrived in Jonford… I was hoping you could pick her up for me,” Lauren said, her voice awkward, tinged with uncertainty. She was trying to mask her discomfort, but Nash could tell something was off.
“I’m already on my way to Jonford to pick up Hera’s relative,” Nash said with a reassuring smile, though his curiosity piqued. “But, Mom, what’s your niece’s name? What does she look like?”
Lauren hesitated, her usual confidence faltering. “Well…” She trailed off, clearly uncomfortable. “I’ve had very little contact with my side of the family since I left. My niece is my third brother Lincoln’s daughter. When I left, Lincoln had just gotten married…”
Nash’s curiosity deepened. “Do you have a photo of her?”
Lauren sighed, clearly frustrated by the situation. “No. I’ll call my second brother, Liam. Maybe he knows something.”
She quickly dialed the landline, and after a brief exchange, it became clear that even Liam was unable to provide any information. “Can you contact Lincoln, then?” Lauren asked, clearly at a loss.
Nash couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the strange turn of events. “Alright, I’ll wait for your call. But I’ll be at the airport either way.”
As Nash got into the car, a sense of intrigue began to settle over him. The mysterious niece—who was she, and why had the family been so out of touch with her? More importantly, what had her arrival in Jonford set into motion?
Helena’s problems seemed to pale in comparison to this new mystery. But one thing was for sure: the webs of family connections were becoming more tangled with every passing moment.
