Chapter_259
Nash’s cryptic words about “someone else” were more than just casual conversation; they held layers of truth and veiled history. The “someone else” he referred to was, indeed, none other than himself. If it weren’t for Olivia’s intervention, the consequences for Kai would have been dire. Nash’s actions had shielded the man from the depths of danger, and as the car rolled through the gates of Royal Bay, Nash felt the weight of his decisions.
In the backseat, James’ expression shifted from curiosity to surprise as he surveyed the surroundings. “Isn’t this the Royal Bay? Do you live here?” he asked, eyeing the luxurious estate beyond the gates.
Royal Bay was renowned for its exclusivity. Villas here were not just expensive; they were symbols of wealth and status, each costing upwards of 50 million with no guarantee of availability, even for those who could afford them. The surprise in James’ voice was palpable—how could a family like the Lewises possibly afford such a place?
Xeno, overhearing James’ comment, muttered under his breath, “Who are you looking down on here?”
To most people, Nash’s quiet demeanor might suggest he was just another affluent businessman, but in reality, he was a privileged client of the Skye family. The platinum membership card he held was enough to buy ten properties in Royal Bay alone, and anyone who dared question his position would soon regret it.
The car came to a halt, and Nash got out, walking around to open the door for their guests. Xeno, ever the dutiful assistant, moved to the trunk to retrieve the luggage. But before he could do so, James swiftly grabbed the suitcase from him, a flat tone in his voice. “I can handle it myself.”
Xeno’s frustration was apparent, though he kept his feelings in check. He had a position of power—second-in-command of Dragon Tiger Gate—but here was a man who had no idea just how fortunate he was to receive such hospitality. But Xeno couldn’t allow himself to show his irritation, not in front of Nash.
“Xeno, you should head back to the Zabels’. Call me if anything happens!” Nash suggested, sensing his assistant’s discomfort.
Xeno, eager to avoid any tension, quickly agreed. “Mr. Nash…” he began, but Nash cut him off with a reassuring smile.
“I don’t mean anything by it. The Green Bamboo Association’s people are still in Jonford. They might target the Zabels at any moment. I’d feel better if you’re there guarding them.”
Xeno’s shoulders relaxed. “Alright, Mr. Nash!”
He climbed into the car, shifting gears and driving off with a practiced drift, quickly disappearing from sight.
Meanwhile, James and Yvonne had reached the front of the villa, and the sight before them was nothing short of breathtaking. The villa, with its elegant European design, exuded an aura of sophistication and wealth. Top-tier materials adorned every corner, and the space felt both luxurious and welcoming.
Yvonne’s eyes widened as she gazed at the house. “What a beautiful house! It’s much more beautiful than our house abroad!”
Her home overseas, a seaside villa, felt modest in comparison to this grand estate. The vast difference in their living spaces was impossible to ignore.
“Uncle James, Yvonne, don’t just stand there. Come inside!” Nash called, a smile on his face as he led the way into the villa.
James, though his expression remained stern, followed the pair inside. Yvonne, feeling a little shy, murmured a quiet “Thank you, Nash” as she entered.
Inside, Maria immediately went to work, preparing tea for the guests, her efficiency a reflection of the high standards of the household. Yvonne, eager to relax, removed her shoes and socks, crossing her legs as she sank into the plush sofa. With a pitiful expression, she looked at James. “Uncle James, I’m hungry…”
Her voice was soft, the little girl’s vulnerability showing through. She had been on a long journey without food or drink, and her stomach was beginning to protest.
James softened just slightly at her words. “Hold on a bit longer. Your Aunt Lauren will be back soon!”
Yvonne nodded, though the hunger in her eyes was hard to miss.
“I’ll ask Maria to prepare something for you to eat. You must be both tired and hungry from the journey,” Nash offered, his tone tinged with a slight nervousness. Hosting his mother-in-law’s family wasn’t a task he had much experience with.
Yvonne, however, waved him off with a bright smile. “No need, Nash. I need to save space for a feast tonight!” she said cheerfully.
Meanwhile, outside the villa, in the park that surrounded the estate, a tall man in a suit was stationed, his figure partially obscured by the trees. He wore sunglasses and spoke into a Bluetooth earpiece, his voice low and methodical. “They’ve arrived at Jonford and have settled in the Royal Bay Villa.”
A cold, chilling voice crackled through the earpiece. “Find an opportunity to get the test item, then eliminate them.”
The man responded with a sharp, respectful nod. “Yes, Sir.”
But just as the man began to move, Hera’s car rolled into view. She noticed the suspicious figure immediately—a man who didn’t belong. This was a private park for the villas, and outsiders weren’t allowed without permission. Moreover, the man’s attire didn’t resemble that of Royal Bay’s security.
Hera’s instincts kicked in, her eyes narrowing as she approached the man. “Who are you? What are you doing here?”
The man froze, momentarily taken aback by her sudden appearance. Yet, he remained silent, his hand subconsciously tightening on the earpiece as if waiting for further orders.
Unbeknownst to Hera, the storm was already gathering around them. The quiet threat hanging in the air was about to take a more dangerous turn.
