Chapter_102
Hunter trailed Hera into her office. She settled into her chair and powered up the computer. “When have I ever sent you pictures of my legs? I don’t even remember replying to your WhatsApp messages,” she said, her tone cool.
Hunter shifted uncomfortably. He had messaged her more than once, each time ignored. Besides, even if she had replied, she would never have shared photos—she never wore shorts, and her skirts always fell to her calves.
“What? Didn’t you respond to me last night?”
“Did you drink so much you can’t recall?” Hera kept her eyes on the screen, fingers already tapping out emails.
Hunter opened his phone and scrolled through their chat history from the previous night. He laid the device on her desk. “Hera, look at this.”
At last, Hera paused her work and glanced at his phone. The messages—and the photos—had come from her account. Fury flared in her eyes. “Did someone hack my profile?”
Hera’s finger tapped her profile picture; the number matched hers. She scanned the conversation until the final line: a sinister suggestion. “You arranged for Skadi and me to be kidnapped?”
Hunter’s eyes widened. “No, it wasn’t me! It was my grandfather—he paid Crow fifteen million to do it!”
In a single, sharp motion, Hera struck him across the face. “Shameless!” she spat.
If Nash hadn’t intervened last night, Skadi might have died.
Hunter cradled his cheek in shock. “Did you just hit me?”
“Get out. Now,” Hera barked, pointing to the door.
Moments later, two security officers knocked and entered.
“Ms. Lewis, is everything all right?” one asked.
“Remove him,” Hera said, voice steady.
The guards bowed to Hunter’s status but escorted him out gently. From the corridor, he called back, “Your grandfather has promised your betrothal gift to my family! You can’t escape me!”
Hera stood at the threshold, guilt and resolve warring in her chest. Skadi had nearly lost her life twice because of Hera’s family. The one time she’d tried to protect her, she’d frozen.
“I will find you, Smiling Grim Reaper,” Hera whispered to the empty room. Determined, she vowed to help Skadi locate her enigmatic idol.
At the heart of the Zells’ private estate stood a grand villa, its perimeter guarded closely. George and Janson had been enlisted as temporary sentries. Stellar paced outside, while Zakariah and Tanner conferred quietly.
Under Grant’s guidance, Nash arrived at the villa. Brian greeted him with reverence. “Grandmaster, I’m relieved you’re here. I feel responsible that I couldn’t treat the warden.”
Stellar hurried forward. “Nash, please follow me.”
Without a word, Nash matched his pace and slipped inside, ready for what awaited him.
