Chapter 161
Sienna’s smile was warm and inviting as she gestured toward the entrance. “Mr. Calcraft, Ms. Lewis, please come with me!” she said, her voice smooth and professional.
Nash gently took Hera’s hand, feeling the subtle tension in her palm. She was still reeling from the shock. The realization that the young master of the Watsons had been kicked out was staggering. To top it off, Nash, a platinum member of the Chateau Hotel, was accompanying her on her birthday celebration. Hera could barely believe it. She had always imagined her family in the background, but now, they were at the forefront of everyone’s attention.
The Lewis family, who had always been looked down upon, suddenly found themselves the center of attention. Their faces flushed with embarrassment, as they awkwardly wondered if they should approach Harrison and Laura, who had been observing from the sidelines.
As the group moved toward the dining area, a voice broke the tension. “Hera… I’ve just sent you a follow request on Instagram. Please approve it when you see it!” Carmen’s voice was sweet, but there was a hint of desperation in her tone as she stepped forward, offering a demure smile.
Charles, ever the eager one, quickly pulled out the keys to the Lamborghini sports car he had initially planned to gift to Helena. Without missing a beat, he handed them to Carmen. “Here you go, Carmen, take these to Hera.”
Carmen grinned brightly and stepped forward. “Hera, this is my and Charles’ gift to you…”
But before Hera could respond, Skadi, who had been quietly observing, cut in. She stepped in front of Hera, pushing the keys away with a cool look in her eyes. “You should keep this gift for yourself. What makes you think Hera is a match for a Lamborghini?”
An awkward silence followed, and Carmen’s face flushed with embarrassment. “Hera, Skadi, I admit I was a bit of a snob before, but please don’t misunderstand me. This is a sincere gift, truly…”
Her intentions, though, were clear to those who were paying attention. Carmen wasn’t trying to win Hera’s favor—she was trying to get in good with Nash, whose platinum membership at the Chateau Hotel made him an incredibly valuable connection.
Skadi, however, was unimpressed. She shot Carmen a cold look and grabbed Hera’s arm, gently pulling her away toward where Sienna was waiting.
Nash, ever the observer, was about to follow them when Carmen rushed forward, a name card in hand. “This is my name card, Mr. Calcraft. My family produces over 60% of the tea consumed by the people in this country. Please feel free to contact me if you ever want a good cup of tea…” she said, her voice laced with a hint of forced charm.
Nash paused for a moment, taking the card without much enthusiasm. Carmen, her confidence growing, rearranged a strand of hair across her forehead, trying to project an air of someone who had seen and experienced the finer things in life.
But Nash, with a dismissive smirk, tossed the card into a nearby trashcan. “It’s no wonder your family sells tea when you’re always so eager to spill the tea on others,” he said, his voice dripping with mockery.
He walked away, leaving Carmen standing there, her face bright red from the public humiliation. She had been expecting rejection, but not something so direct, so insulting. She stared at the trashcan, her mouth hanging open, unsure whether she wanted to scream or cry.
But she couldn’t afford to antagonize someone like Nash, not with his platinum membership and the power that came with it.
As Nash and the others made their way toward the dining area, Harrison and Laura moved to join them. Laura, ever the gracious host, greeted her relatives with a wide smile. “Thank you for attending Hera’s birthday party today!” she said, her tone warm and welcoming.
It was clear to everyone that Laura had no intention of letting the Lewis family’s presence be seen as a mistake. The reason for their attendance, she explained, was that Hera had decided to postpone her own birthday celebration in favor of attending Helena’s. But as it was Hera’s birthday, they were here to celebrate her, and no one was going to question the official reason for their presence.
Her words were a subtle yet calculated move to ensure that they were seen as generous and accommodating, reinforcing the bond between the Lewis family and the others present.
“Haha… yes, yes, of course!” one of Harrison’s cousins chimed in with a nervous laugh. “Birthday celebrations should be on the actual birthday itself. Hera is the birthday girl today. We’re all here to celebrate her birthday!”
Several other relatives nodded and smiled, their faces strained as they tried to play along.
Laura turned toward Hubert and Rooney with a demure smile. “Hubert, Rooney, would you like to join us?” she asked, her voice sweet with just a hint of condescension.
The power dynamics in the room had shifted. The once-disrespected Lewis family was now in the spotlight, while the Watsons, despite their wealth, were left to stew in their own embarrassment.
