Chapter 146
Dragon Might Boxing Center.
“Damn it… Damn it!”
Kai’s rage was palpable as he pulled at his hair, his eyes burning with fury. He looked like he was on the edge of losing control, his body trembling with the force of his emotions.
He had spent three years laying the perfect plan, only for two unexpected threats to emerge at the most crucial moment: Nash and Theo.
They were two individuals he couldn’t afford to touch—dangerous in ways that Kai would never dare challenge.
This was the first time Helena had ever seen him so angry. She stood frozen, too afraid to utter a word.
Duncan, pale as a ghost, hesitated for a long moment before taking a deep breath and attempting to calm him. “Kai, don’t worry. We still have the Tiger vs. Phoenix Competition.”
But just as Kai’s breathing started to steady, the door opened, and one of Duncan’s bodyguards stepped in, urgency written across his face.
“Mr. Duncan, Mr. Kai, we’ve just received word from Mandagor. Votes for Mammoth have dropped to 77 million.”
Crash!
The glass Duncan was holding shattered on the floor, the sound piercing through the tense silence. “How… How did this happen?” Duncan asked, his voice thick with disbelief.
It was obvious to anyone with even half a brain that Tiger would win the Tiger vs. Phoenix Championship. As long as Mammoth lost, they could pocket the money from unsuspecting investors and then close down the company in Mandagor, walking away with a clean, profitable exit.
But now, everything was unraveling.
“S-Someone leaked that the Phoenix Crown Championship is being manipulated!” The bodyguard’s voice trembled, his words barely coherent.
Kai’s eyes darkened, and in an instant, he was on his feet, grabbing the bodyguard by the collar, his grip tightening with a growl. “Who? Who the hell did this?”
The bodyguard stammered, fear evident in his face. “It’s… it’s the Smiling Grim Reaper! The news came from the dark web. He’s the one who spread it.”
The name struck Kai like a bolt of lightning. He stumbled back, his knees weak, and collapsed into a chair. His entire body went rigid.
The Smiling Grim Reaper.
Why was he suddenly involved? Why now?
“Why would the Smiling Grim Reaper target us?” Kai murmured, his voice shaking. “Could Nash have brought him out? Is that why he bet so much?”
A cold sweat broke out on Kai’s forehead. If Nash had any ties to the Smiling Grim Reaper, that would spell disaster. The possibilities were too terrifying to even contemplate.
Duncan slowly stroked his chin, lost in thought. “Theo might be the one who knows the Smiling Grim Reaper. It’s not them targeting us, but Theo. But why did Nash make such a large bet?”
Helena, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke up. “Isn’t Nash Bianca’s coach now? It’s not unusual for him to support her, but how did this… trash come into all that money?”
Kai’s expression softened slightly as he answered in a controlled voice. “He earned three billion from my family, and another billion from treating the warden.”
Back at the ring, the wait for Kai’s appearance stretched on. When he didn’t show up to present the award after what felt like an eternity, the host, with forced enthusiasm, tried to cover for him.
“Mr. Kai, as the heir to Jonford’s wealthiest family, undoubtedly has many responsibilities. I’m sure everyone understands!”
The crowd’s attention shifted, but Kai was already on the move. He left the second-floor balcony, his footsteps measured and determined, with Helena and Duncan at his side.
Without a glance toward the arena, the trio made a beeline for the elevator.
A swarm of reporters followed, but they were quickly stopped by Kai’s bodyguards, who blocked their path without hesitation.
As the elevator doors opened, a familiar figure emerged. Queenie stood there, casually eating a lollipop, her face lighting up when she saw Kai.
“Kai, are you done with the match?” she asked, her tone cheerful and carefree.
She wasn’t interested in boxing—she had only come today to see who would win the Phoenix Crown.
Kai, expressionless, walked past her, surrounded by his bodyguards, not sparing her a single glance. His mind was elsewhere, far removed from the trivialities of the match or Queenie’s question.
