Chapter 129
Hera stood in front of the security gates with a cold, unyielding expression. She wasn’t one to back down easily, but the guards’ desperate faces made her hesitate for just a moment.
“Ms. Lewis, please don’t make this difficult for us!” one of the security guards pleaded, his voice laced with anxiety.
“Yeah, Ms. Lewis. Ms. Mare has issued strict orders. If we let you in, we won’t receive a penny of our salary this month!” the other added, his voice shaky, as if they were about to burst into tears.
Hera pressed her fingers to her forehead, trying to calm her frustration. She turned to Nash with a resigned sigh. “You pull them aside…” she muttered, already mentally preparing herself for the battle ahead.
Nash, with a smile that barely masked his amusement, shook his head. “They’re having a hard time as well. Let’s just let it go!” He knew Lauren and Harrison were behind this whole setup and figured it wasn’t worth causing more trouble.
Hera shot him a glare. “Did you all conspire this together?” she asked, narrowing her eyes.
Just then, Lauren’s white Audi pulled up, and Hera’s mother stepped out in a crisp white professional outfit, a gleam of mischief in her eyes. “You guys came here so early. You must’ve skipped breakfast, right?” Lauren teased, her voice lighthearted.
Behind her, Harrison, with slicked-back hair and dark circles under his eyes, got out of the car and walked over to Hera, handing her a brand new LV bag. “This is the birthday gift I prepared for you!”
Hera’s eyes widened as she stared at the bag. “Oh my god, Dad! How did you know I like this bag?” she exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine surprise. It was the latest style, with exquisite handcrafted decorations that made it worth more than $40,000.
“I really love it, but… I never thought you’d buy something this expensive!” Hera added, her voice full of both excitement and gratitude.
Lauren beamed at her daughter and pulled out a handful of membership cards. “These are the membership cards your father and I got from various shopping malls and entertainment venues in Jonford. You two should go out and have fun today. Consider it a date…” She winked at Nash, then added, “I’m entrusting my daughter to you. Make sure she has an unforgettable birthday!”
Nash laughed and gave a playful salute. “Don’t worry, Lauren. I’ll take good care of Hera today!”
Hera felt a rush of warmth flood her chest, a blush creeping up her neck. “Mom, you guys… knowing my birthday has been postponed, you still bought me gifts. What are you going to do for my actual birthday party? Nothing?”
Harrison laughed heartily and put his arm around Lauren’s shoulder. “You guys go and have fun. Your mother and I need to go to a meeting!” With that, they waved goodbye and headed towards the company.
Nash, ever the gentleman, walked over to the Maserati, opened the door, and made a grand gesture. “Get in the car, my princess!”
Hera felt a smile tug at her lips, and her face flushed from the compliment. “Where did you learn that from?” she asked, trying to suppress the flutter in her chest.
Nash grinned as he slid into the driver’s seat. “Of course, I learned it from you. Have you forgotten?”
He started the engine, and with a playful glint in his eye, asked, “Where do you want to go?”
Before Hera could respond, a taxi suddenly pulled up in front of them, and out stepped Skadi, her usual carefree energy radiating from her.
She walked over to the passenger seat with a teasing smile. “You guys are going out and you’re not taking me with you?” Skadi grinned, clearly ready to join the fun.
Nash’s smile froze. What was Skadi doing here? Was she planning to be a third wheel?
“I was just about to call you!” Hera said brightly, getting out of the car to join Skadi in the back seat.
Nash sighed in exaggerated disappointment. Hera had never been in a serious relationship before, and she didn’t notice the little things that might have made Nash feel left out.
The two girls excitedly flipped through the membership cards that Lauren had given them.
Skadi pulled out one with two boxers printed on it and waved it in front of Hera. “Didn’t you want to watch a boxing match? This card is a diamond membership for the Dragon Might International Boxing Center. We can get tickets at a 70% discount!”
Hera looked at Nash, her voice tentative. “Nash… Can we… go watch a boxing match?”
Nash made a face of mock disgust. “What’s there to watch? It’s just shadowboxing!”
Skadi ignored him, her excitement infectious. “Today’s the weekend, so there are several women’s boxing matches! It’s going to be fun!”
Hera added, “International Boxing Competition… It won’t hurt to watch…”
Nash rolled his eyes but relented, quietly entering the Dragon Might Boxing Center into the navigation before starting the car and driving off.
As they passed by a breakfast chain store, Skadi pulled out another membership card and suggested they stop for breakfast first. After the meal, they drove to the Dragon Might Boxing Center to watch the match, their day unfolding with an unexpected sense of adventure.
