Chapter 126
Helena sat quietly, her fingers wrapped around her glass as she listened to the conversation, her mind racing. Being with Kai always left her feeling disconnected, as if they were simply going through the motions of a relationship, without any real depth or connection. The thought gnawed at her, and she couldn’t shake the sense of frustration that had been building.
“Harri, how far has the collaboration with Drake Group progressed?” Herman’s voice cut through the air, his tone noticeably gentler when the subject shifted to business.
Harrison, ever attentive, responded quickly, “Drake Group’s 1.5 billion dollars deposit arrived today. The recruitment plans for both the parent company and branches have been approved. We expect to start mass hiring tomorrow. Additionally, we’ve decided to add at least 20 production lines to ensure we can deliver the first batch of chips to Drake Group within two months.”
The mention of the deal seemed to shift the focus for a moment, but Hera’s mind was elsewhere. She had to find a way to persuade her grandfather to abandon the idea of marrying her off to the Hills. The thought of it unsettled her deeply, but she knew it was something she couldn’t avoid for much longer.
“Grandpa, there’s something important I need to tell you,” Hera began, her voice laced with urgency. Without considering how her parents might react, she dove into the story, recounting the terrifying experience of being kidnapped by Crow and Skadi’s involvement.
Herman’s expression shifted from curiosity to disbelief as he processed her words. “Are you saying they wanted to kill Skadi? That… that seems improbable, right?”
Hera, with unwavering confidence, met his gaze. “It’s absolutely true. Hunter himself admitted it. If Nash hadn’t arrived in time to save us, the consequences would have been unimaginable.”
Herman sat back in his chair, clearly troubled by the revelation. For a moment, it seemed as though the room itself had fallen silent under the weight of the words. The idea that they had been in such grave danger was hard for him to fathom, but Hera’s certainty left little room for doubt.
Just as she was about to speak again, Helena, who had been silently observing, opened her mouth to interject. But then, she paused. Her thoughts trailed back to the news that Crow from Causeway Bay had been found dead, and her mind quickly pieced the puzzle together. If Crow was dead, and Nash had saved Hera and Skadi… it meant one thing. Nash must have been the one who killed Crow.
Helena looked at Nash, who met her gaze calmly, his expression unreadable. The weight of the realization pressed down on her, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that there were still many truths left unspoken.
“What is it?” Herman’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts, and he turned toward her, sensing her hesitation.
Helena’s heart raced, but she quickly shook her head, trying to mask her inner turmoil. “N-Nothing…”
But in that moment, Helena couldn’t ignore the truth she had just uncovered: Nash had killed Crow. And the more she thought about it, the more it unsettled her. What was his role in all of this? What other secrets was he hiding?
The room seemed to hold its breath, and the unspoken tension between them all grew. As the dinner continued, the undercurrents of unease and hidden truths lingered, and Helena couldn’t help but wonder just how deep the web of lies and secrets really went.
