Chapter 154
When Carmen saw Helena approaching, her face immediately lit up with a beaming smile. “Helena, you’re here!”
Helena returned the greeting with politeness, her tone tinged with a subtle hint of coldness. “Carmen, Mr. Gardner, it’s nice to see you.”
Though they had shared a class once, their interactions had been minimal, and Helena always knew that Carmen had looked down on her. Now, however, with Carmen being Kai’s girlfriend, she fawned over her. But Helena knew well that if it weren’t for Charles’ influence, Carmen wouldn’t give her the time of day.
Hera, sensing the tension in the air, squeezed Nash’s hand and whispered, “Nash, let’s go.”
Nash, unfazed by the scene unfolding around them, smiled. “Where to?”
Hera rolled her eyes at him, her impatience apparent. “I’m hungry, let’s go home to eat!”
She quickly checked her phone, expecting a message from her parents. Her screen remained empty. Not a single text. Hadn’t they promised to call when dinner was ready?
Nash raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t this a place to eat?”
“It is,” Hera replied, her tone clipped. “But it isn’t a place worth eating at!”
Rooney and Hubert were walking toward them now, Rooney leading the charge with her sharp gaze. Hera’s heart dropped. Her worst fears were materializing. Her face flushed with embarrassment as her hand, still holding Nash’s, began to tremble.
Queenie, walking behind them, unwrapped a lollipop, popping it into her mouth with a satisfied grin. She relished every moment of the drama unfolding before her. The Lewis family’s intentions were clear — they were targeting Nash. Queenie couldn’t have been happier, her expression dripping with satisfaction.
Skadi and Bianca approached Nash and Hera, but while Bianca frowned, Skadi remained calm — or at least, appeared to. She had heard rumors that the Watson family held a premium membership card to the Chateau Hotel. If Nash didn’t have one, today’s confrontation would end in embarrassment for Hera. But if he did… the game would change.
Rooney, her tone dripping with disdain, eyed the heart of roses behind them. “Mr. Kai prepared that for my daughter. The audacity of you to come here and take pictures. You’re absolutely shameless. I’ve never seen anyone as shameless as you!”
Hera flinched at the words. The sting of Rooney’s accusation was immediate, and her face flushed even further. She felt humiliated, especially knowing that it was her birthday, yet she was forced to borrow someone else’s gift just to take a few photos. It was as if everything had spiraled out of control. The shame burned in her chest, and tears began to well in her eyes.
Nash, however, remained unfazed. With a calm smile, he addressed Rooney. “You say these roses were a gift from Kai to Helena, but can you prove it?”
Rooney sneered. “Proof? Who doesn’t know that today is my daughter’s birthday? I’ll be honest with you, Kai used his grandfather’s premium membership card for all of this. These roses are just a perk of the card!”
The mention of the membership card sent ripples through the crowd. People whispered among themselves, intrigued by the revelation.
“Premium membership card, what’s that?” a Jonford University student asked, clearly confused.
A girl beside her, more knowledgeable about such matters, leaned in to explain. “Only members can visit Chateau Hotel. The membership is divided into three levels. The first level is a normal card worth one-hundred-and-forty-million dollars. A diamond card costs seven-hundred-million, and a premium membership card is worth two-billion-and-seven-hundred-million dollars!”
The crowd gasped in shock. Two-billion-and-seven-hundred-million dollars? That was more than the entire worth of many established family businesses combined. The magnitude of the sum left everyone speechless. This was just the Watson family’s membership card.
Nash’s voice broke through the murmurs. “I still want proof. Why are you talking about a membership card instead of providing evidence?”
Rooney let out a humorless laugh. “Do you want me to fetch Mr. Kai and the hotel manager for proof?”
Before anyone could respond, Helena smiled sweetly, stepping forward with an air of authority. “Mom, there’s no need to bother Kai or the hotel manager. If they want to take pictures, let them.”
Her calm demeanor contrasted with the tension in the air, but her words were a clear sign that she was ready to assert her influence over the situation. The stage was set for a showdown — one that was far from over.
