Chapter 148
Bianca left the venue quickly after her conversation with Queenie. She wasn’t about to give any consideration to the Watsons’ family if they weren’t going to show the same respect to Nash.
Queenie stood frozen, watching Bianca’s retreating figure. Nash? Bianca’s coach? she thought in disbelief.
Wasn’t Nash a doctor? How had he gone from medical practice to training a boxer with such prowess? And to train someone as powerful as Bianca, no less? She couldn’t help but wonder how far Nash’s talents really extended.
Later, Nash drove the Maserati, with Skadi and Hera in tow, taking them to a nearby playground. Skadi and Hera were in high spirits, enjoying themselves as they played. Nash found himself carrying their unfinished snacks, feeling like a third wheel among them.
At noon, the trio grabbed a casual lunch before heading to the cinema. As they reached the entrance, Skadi paused and noticed the groups of young couples around them. She smiled and turned to Nash and Hera, saying, “I’m going to skip the movie. I need to go see Bianca!”
Hera scowled in displeasure. “We’ve already got the tickets. Why the sudden change?”
Skadi grinned and gave them a gentle push toward the ticket gate. “The movie’s starting soon. Don’t waste time!”
Reluctantly, Hera agreed. “Alright, then. Be careful on the road.”
Nash handed Skadi her bag and smiled lightly. “I see you still have some conscience.” Today was meant to be a chance for him to strengthen his bond with Hera, but it seemed Skadi had monopolized her attention for most of the day.
Nash bought popcorn and a Coke for himself. Hera couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculous he looked, balancing the popcorn and soda.
The movie they were about to watch was the latest Hollywood action blockbuster, The Legendary Life of the King of Fighters, starring the renowned Mike Thorson. The theater was packed, indicating the film’s immense popularity.
Nash and Hera settled into the last row of the theater, the opening scene of the movie showing Mike defeating the Dark Lord with a single punch. But then, the screen rewound, delving into Mike’s troubled past.
Mike’s childhood had been far from ideal. Raised in a broken home, he had two younger sisters and three brothers. His father, a drug addict, often abused his mother, who resorted to prostitution to support the family. Mike, the eldest, had silently witnessed his mother’s suffering, unable to do anything to stop it.
At school, he was a constant target for bullying. Mike’s turning point came when, after a brutal beating, he was thrown into the water, left for dead. In his desperation, he stole money to get tattoos and joined a gang. His transformation from a helpless child to a hardened street thug was brutal but swift.
Eventually, Mike was imprisoned for unintentionally injuring someone. Inside, he saw that the most powerful men were the prison fighters, and the prison boss had considerable influence, even over the guards. After befriending the boss, Mike learned basic boxing techniques, becoming nearly unbeatable in the prison ring.
When Mike was released, he sought out the boxing coach recommended by the prison boss. The coach trained him, turning him into a street boxing champion. But in the end, the coach took everything from Mike—his money and his reputation—and framed him with false evidence, leaving Mike despised and scorned.
Hera’s face darkened as she watched the betrayal unfold on screen. “What a disgusting coach. Taking his money is one thing, but ruining his reputation too? That’s unforgivable,” she said, her voice tinged with anger.
Nash sighed deeply. “You can’t trust anyone easily when money is involved.”
Hera nodded in agreement, her gaze returning to the screen as the movie continued. The story of Mike’s rise and fall was only just beginning. On screen, Mike met a woman in the underground boxing scene, and their relationship quickly became intense and passionate. But, distracted by his love life, his performance in the ring began to falter.
In a bid to make money, Mike’s management company resorted to drastic measures, hiring a group of dangerous men to capture his girlfriend.
