Chapter 185
Jupiter sighed, clearly frustrated. “This district is enormous. We’ve been searching for your villa for half an hour. If I hadn’t shown your ID at the sales office and inquired about your residence, we might have spent even longer.”
Hera, who had been waiting for some updates, immediately turned her attention to the matter at hand. “Captain Holt, have you found the perpetrator?”
The Inspection Department had set up a special operations brigade for the case involving the Lewis family’s estate. Jupiter was the captain, and Angelica served as the vice-captain. It had been three days since the incident, so Hera hoped they had made progress.
Jupiter’s expression grew somber as he shook his head. “We haven’t found any concrete clues yet. However, the Sky Blade Group has dispatched a dozen of their staff of Somerese descent to Jonford.” His voice lowered as he added, “Their reasons for coming here are unclear, but we plan to deploy some police forces to Harrison’s and Hubert’s homes to be safe.”
Hera felt her blood run cold at the mention of the Sky Blade Group. “A-Are they going to continue attacking us? What did we do to provoke them?”
Angelica, ever calm and composed, spoke up to reassure her. “Miss Lewis, don’t worry too much. We’re being thorough in our investigation. The Sky Blade Group likely came to Jonford for one of two reasons. First, they might still be targeting your family. Second, they could be looking for a traitor within their ranks.”
Both scenarios seemed plausible, and with no solid evidence to guide them, the team was focused on protecting the Lewis family. The presence of the inspection department meant that no international mercenary organization would dare to act recklessly, not with the military’s authority looming over them. Regardless of the mercenaries’ strength, they were not foolish enough to challenge a country’s military power.
Hera’s phone rang, cutting through the tension. She fished it out of her bag and apologized to Jupiter and Angelica. “I’m sorry to keep causing you trouble.”
“It’s our duty to protect the people,” Jupiter said with a smile.
After Hera answered the call, she glanced at Nash. “I need to head to the company right away. Nash, please entertain Captain Holt and Miss Angelica.”
Jupiter turned to Angelica. “Use our car to take Miss Lewis to the company. Those planning something will think twice when they see our car.”
Angelica nodded. “I’ll have Tommy send her.” She then turned to Hera. “There’s a car outside with a license plate ending in 667. I’ll have a colleague pick you up and drop you off for work over the next two days.”
Hera hesitated, feeling awkward. “That’s quite an imposition. I don’t want to be a burden.”
But Nash, seeing no alternative, spoke up. “Go with Captain Holt’s arrangement. They’re working to protect the Lewis family, so we shouldn’t interfere with their plans.”
Skadi added with a grin, “He’s right, Hera. Bianca and I are with you. You can rest easy knowing we’ve got your back.”
Hera smiled gratefully and nodded in agreement. It seemed like the best solution, given the circumstances.
The three of them—Hera, Skadi, and Bianca—walked out of the community together.
Meanwhile, Nash turned to Jupiter and Angelica, sensing that they still had something to discuss. “Do you need to ask me something else?”
Jupiter nodded, his face growing serious again. “We’ve been monitoring the surveillance footage near the Lewis family’s estate over the past three days, and we noticed something suspicious. But the person involved has an identity that’s… difficult to ignore.”
Nash’s gaze sharpened. “What identity?”
Jupiter, a man in his 40s with years of experience, was usually unflappable. There were only two possibilities for why he was still a captain: either he had offended someone or he was too blunt and straightforward. A man like him was not easily intimidated.
Jupiter’s expression darkened as he stepped closer and lowered his voice. “It’s Wesley Walker, the governor’s nephew. He served in the Southern Region for several years.”
