Chapter 123
Nash had met Lori once before, when he registered his personal information in the HR department. He hadn’t expected her to come personally deliver his work badge.
“Ms. Lynch, I didn’t expect you to go out of your way for something so trivial,” Nash said with a smile, standing up in polite greeting.
After all, he couldn’t just remain seated when a department manager was personally delivering his work ID.
“Ack…!”
Lori’s high heels wavered as she approached, and she stumbled toward him with a surprised cry. Nash, quick to react, grabbed her arm with his firm hand.
“Are you okay?” His voice was low and concerned.
Lori, who was a head shorter than him, found herself dangerously close to him. As she fell, the top button of her blouse popped off, exposing her milky skin. She shot him a pitiful look as she bit her lip, clearly embarrassed.
“Mr. Calcraft… I seem to have twisted my ankle,” she said softly.
Nash immediately let go of her arm and pointed to the first aid kit on the wall. “There’s medicine in there. Apply some and massage it. You’ll be fine.”
Nash was quick to notice that when Lori had fallen toward him, her leg muscles had been tense. Even if he hadn’t caught her, she could have steadied herself. It was clear she had intentionally fallen into his arms.
Either she was sent by Hera to test him, or she might have taken an interest in him. After all, young, handsome men were rare in the Baroque branch office.
With a sultry, almost pleading look, Lori asked, “Mr. Calcraft… could you help me get there?”
Nash took the work ID from her hand and, without a second glance, turned to walk back to his office chair. Lori stood frozen, her mind racing.
She had always been confident about her looks and her ability to charm anyone. She thought she could easily win over this new guy—but clearly, he was as oblivious as they come.
At that moment, the office door swung open, and Hera stepped inside. “Nash…”
Seeing Lori in Nash’s office, Hera’s eyes widened in surprise. “Ms. Lynch… what are you doing here?”
Lori quickly straightened, her face flushing with embarrassment. “I came to deliver Mr. Calcraft’s work ID.”
Hera nodded and walked toward Nash, a soft smile on her lips. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
“I didn’t want to disturb you, since you were in a meeting,” Nash replied with a casual grin.
“You were supposed to be resting today. Why did you come to work?” Hera’s voice was laced with mild concern.
“I had nothing to do, so I thought I’d help you out,” Nash said, his smile still easygoing.
Lori watched the exchange with increasing shock. Her toes curled awkwardly inside her heels as realization struck her.
No wonder Nash had been hired as the security manager without any experience—he was Ms. Lewis’ boyfriend!
