Chapter 104
The deossification poison was infamous—ranked third among the ten most dangerous abnormal parasites. Even the King of Parasites himself would hesitate before confronting it. Only because the victim was the border warden had it drawn such fierce attention.
Stellar’s voice trembled as he stood beside Nash. “J-Just tell me what to do.”
He dared not question the Smiling Grim Reaper. Nash issued orders with calm precision. “Brian, prepare thirty-six porcelain bowls, three pounds of tiger-corpse oil, and three feet of cotton wicking. Colonel, contact the Martial Arts Association and the National Association of Priests. Request grandmaster-level experts to guard the villa.”
Stellar swallowed. “Why those supplies?”
Nash offered no explanation. He simply turned and strode from the room, his coat swirling behind him. Stellar watched the warden’s motionless form, heart pounding. Only Nash could save him now.
Brian pressed a hand to his chest. “Consider his instructions carefully, Colonel.” Then he stepped outside to make the calls.
Nash sped toward Rex District in the Maserati, the villa’s fortress walls receding in his rearview mirror. Philix’s condition weighed heavily on him. Earlier, he had claimed only twenty-percent confidence in reviving the warden—truth was, his certainty was under ten. Time was slipping away. He would have to employ the Longhorn bug to preserve whatever life remained.
At a red light, Nash dialed Cassie. “I’m facing a deossification poison.”
Cassie’s voice crackled with shock. “That’s one of the worst abnormal parasites I know. You need my grandfather.”
Within moments, Nash was speaking to Elder Morkov, the King of Parasites. “Is there any cure?”
“The deossification parasite,” Morkov sighed, “is third in viciousness only to the Rift Horror and the Scarab Lord. Once it takes hold, even my master has no remedy.”
Nash’s jaw tightened. “Nothing at all?”
“Nothing.” Morkov’s tone was final.
The light turned green just as an accident erupted ahead. Nash ended the call and slammed the accelerator. The Maserati rocketed forward, sirens of urgency echoing in his mind.
Meanwhile, Governor Jade and General Henderson raced toward the villa. Stellar received word from the Lewis family: their detectives had uncovered thirty assassins hidden among the Blood Leaderboard’s operatives. Now he understood Nash’s insistence on summoning the grandmasters and priestly guardians.
The Martial Arts Association and National Association of Priests were mobilizing their finest. The villa’s walls would soon bristle with watchful eyes and steeled resolve, guarding against the darkness that sought to consume the warden’s very bones.
