Chapter 128
“Alright, it’s getting late. Go and get some rest!” Haspard waved his hand dismissively, signaling the end of the conversation with Geoffrey. He had no intention of discussing further, his mind preoccupied with other matters. As a grandfather, he felt he had a right to spoil his own grandson, even if his son wouldn’t.
Geoffrey, though reluctant, could only shake his head in resignation before walking out of the study.
Once alone, Haspard pulled out his phone and began dialing, a dark look in his eyes. He had something more pressing on his mind—something that could no longer be delayed.
In the Lanes household, Howard sat hunched over in his study, a deep frown etched across his face as he stewed in frustration. The tension in the room was palpable.
“Grandpa, that guy called Nash isn’t so easy to deal with, right?” Simon’s voice was low, carrying an edge of annoyance as he paced the room. The young leader of the Green Bamboo Association’s ninth branch had been feeling the sting of recent failures. Crow’s death had thrown Causeway Bay into disarray, and Simon was itching to avenge him. But his grandfather had stopped him from taking matters into his own hands.
Howard let out a deep sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Nash has extraordinary medical skills. First, he healed Walter Watson’s wife, then he cured Philix King. The Lees, Zakariah, and the National Association of Priests all show him the utmost respect. His network has already exceeded my imagination…”
Howard paused, and Simon could see the defeat in his eyes.
“What’s even more outrageous,” Howard continued, “is that he practices the Path and has terrifying martial arts skills.”
The weight of his words hung heavily in the air. Howard had tried to calculate how he might bring Nash down, but the man seemed untouchable.
Simon, always the strategist, spoke again, his tone quieter this time. “Doesn’t the Green Bamboo Association have the Ten Juggernauts? Perhaps we could ask them to make a move.”
The Ten Juggernauts were legends in their own right, each one more formidable than the last. They were the true backbone of the Green Bamboo Association. However, only the head of the association could command them.
Howard’s gaze darkened. He fell silent for a moment, his mind turning over the possibilities before speaking again, his voice laced with reluctant resolve. “It seems like that’s the only way… I once took a knife for the head of the association, and he promised me a favor…”
Back at the Lewis family business, Hera and Nash arrived early the next morning, walking into the company together. As they approached the entrance, something caught Hera’s eye—a change in the security personnel. The older guards, who had been stationed at the entrance for years, were nowhere to be seen. In their place were two young men, likely in their twenties.
Hera’s frown deepened as she turned to Nash. “Did you do this?”
Nash shook his head, a look of confusion crossing his face. “No… and I’ve never seen these two men before…”
The security guards, spotting the CEO and her companion, quickly hurried over to greet them.
“Good morning, Ms. Lewis, Mr. Calcraft!” one of them called out, his tone polite yet somewhat nervous.
Hera narrowed her eyes, her suspicion growing. She didn’t like surprises, especially not ones she wasn’t in control of. “What’s going on here?” she asked, her voice firm.
“Ms. Lewis, we were transferred here from the headquarters!” the younger guard explained, his voice lacking the usual familiarity of the regular staff.
A spark of annoyance flashed in Hera’s eyes. “Why don’t I know about this?” She immediately took out her phone and dialed her mother’s number.
“Mom, why did you replace the security guards at my company?” Hera asked once the line picked up.
“Yes, I did. I replaced them to block you!” Lauren’s voice came through, sounding strangely cheerful.
“Block me?” Hera repeated, certain she must have misunderstood.
“Your father and I discussed it. Today is your birthday, after all, so we want to give you the day off. If we had told you in advance, you definitely wouldn’t have agreed, so we simply had the security guards block you outside!”
Hera’s eyebrows shot up. “But… I have several meetings today!”
Lauren’s tone was brisk. “I’ve arranged everything for you, I’m heading to the company now. Gotta go!” And with that, her mother hung up the phone, leaving Hera staring at the screen in disbelief.
Shaking her head, Hera sighed in exasperation before turning toward the entrance. She wasn’t about to let something as trivial as a security blockade stop her from doing what needed to be done.
As she approached the gates, the security guards stepped forward, blocking her way.
“Ms. Lewis, Ms. Mare said not to let you in today!” one of the guards said, his expression apologetic but resolute.
“Get out of my way!” Hera snapped, her voice sharp with authority. The stubbornness of her family was starting to wear thin, and she had no patience for it today.
