Chapter 195
The conductor’s skepticism was palpable as he glared at Felicity, still not convinced by her claim. “Then I’m the governor of Sagen!” he scoffed, his voice laced with disbelief.
Felicity’s eyes narrowed. Without a word, she reached out and pinched the conductor’s ear, making him wince in pain. With a swift motion, she lifted her leather jacket, revealing her official ID card tucked inside.
The conductor’s face drained of color, his pupils shrinking. “I… Fuck, a-are you really the deputy chief?” he stammered, his bravado evaporating.
Felicity shoved him down onto the table with a loud smack. “You scalpers are really stubborn. Keep cheating money out of fools. Doesn’t it keep you up at night?” she growled, her voice dripping with disdain.
Nash turned to Angelica, his eyebrow raised in amusement. “Am I one of the fools she’s talking about?” he asked, a wry smile tugging at his lips.
Angelica gulped, not sure how to respond. “M-Maybe?” she stammered.
Nash’s face flushed slightly in embarrassment. If he hadn’t been in such a rush and hadn’t tried to avoid attention, he would have never fallen for the scam in the first place.
The scalper, now completely flustered, begged pitifully, “Miss, I slipped up. I won’t do it again! You’re a kind-hearted woman, so please just ignore this!” His voice trembled with fear.
Felicity’s expression remained cold as she waved him off. “Fuck right off. If I see you scalpers again, I’ll catch you all one by one!” she warned, her voice as sharp as a blade.
The scalper scrambled away, abandoning the two tickets on the table. Without a second glance, he dashed off, clearly eager to put as much distance between himself and Felicity as possible.
A few tourists, who had been standing nearby, looked down at the tickets in their hands, confusion written on their faces. Had they really bought excessively priced tickets from scalpers?
Felicity glanced at the tourists, her lips curling into a smirk. “You should’ve read the travel guides before coming, then you wouldn’t have been deceived,” she taunted.
Nash looked at Angelica, still trying to process the situation. “Angelica, is your classmate really the deputy chief?” he asked, his disbelief still evident.
Angelica smiled, nodding in affirmation. “Sagen is a special place. The Inspection Department’s rules and regulations are more relaxed here. Felicity’s been in office for less than half a year, but she’s already reorganized many of the towns and villages!”
Nash couldn’t help but feel a bit more impressed. “I guess I’ve been underestimating her,” he muttered under his breath.
“What are you two muttering about?” Felicity’s voice broke through their conversation as she approached them casually, her hands behind her back, exuding an air of authority.
Angelica smiled brightly and began to introduce Nash. “Felicity, let me introduce you. This is—”
“Don’t… I don’t want to meet any idiots, or I might become dumber under their influence!” Felicity cut her off dismissively, her tone dripping with disdain.
Nash couldn’t help but smirk at her bluntness. “Well, that’s one way to make an impression,” he muttered to himself.
Felicity handed the two tickets the scalper had left behind to Angelica. “Let’s go. I’ll take you to Bronze Town!” she said, her voice suddenly lighter, as if the earlier encounter had never happened.
The gates to Bronze Town were divided into two: one with facial recognition for the residents, and the other where a ticket inspector had to manually open the gate for tourists. Inside, the town was lively with a mix of traditional architecture and modern food stalls. Internet celebrities dressed in vintage garb posed for photos, while a film crew cleared a street for a shoot.
Felicity strolled down the main street confidently, her posture like that of someone who owned the entire place. She didn’t seem to care who was watching; she walked like she ruled this territory.
As they made their way toward the cemetery, Angelica filled Felicity in on their mission to capture a top-level Sky Blade mercenary.
When Felicity heard about their goal, her interest peaked immediately. “Please do. If you catch such a powerful person, that’d be at least a second-class merit,” she remarked with a smirk, clearly excited by the prospect of such a challenge.
Angelica smiled knowingly. “We don’t know for sure if Wesley is in Bronze Town.”
Felicity thought for a moment before speaking. “A 35-year-old man still has a photo of his first love hanging at home? That shows he’s still deeply in love and hasn’t moved on after his ex-girlfriend’s death. If he’s hiding out, he’ll definitely come to visit her grave for one last time.”
Angelica’s eyes lit up as she heard the familiar thought. “You thought the same as Nash.”
Felicity raised an eyebrow. “Nash? Who’s Nash? That idiot at the back? Is he even worthy of being compared to me?” she sneered, her expression full of arrogance.
Angelica couldn’t help but laugh. “I guess you’re not a fan of him, huh?”
