Chapter 108
High on Tili Mountain, the wind whispered through ancient pines above the swirling mists. Stellar’s voice crackled over the line. “Nash—could we summon Master Calcraft from his mountain retreat?”
Nash’s reply came swift and firm. “No. My master… he’s no longer alive.”
Stellar frowned. Master Calcraft—the very name belonged to Nash’s revered teacher. Surely an apprentice, even one as gifted as Nash, could not wield the Apocalyptic Star’s power alone?
Father Cillian’s distant words echoed in Stellar’s mind: “The Apocalyptic Star represents Master Calcraft. Only he can alter the Warden’s fate.” But if the master had truly passed, every hope seemed lost.
Nash ended the call and refocused on the mission. Beside Chief Jupiter Holt and Inspector Angelica, he reviewed surveillance footage from the Fourth Industrial Zone. There, a group of masked men bundled Brian into a building marked “Rococo Coating Factory.”
“That’s owned by the Lewis family,” Angelica murmured.
Nash’s jaw tightened. His ties to the Lewises were known—he could not entrust them with this rescue. Turning to Jupiter, he said, “Let’s move in ourselves.”
Helena Lewis lounged behind an imposing oak desk, feet crossed, a smug smile on her lips. Before her lay a stack of cash—four hundred and twenty thousand dollars—and a non-disclosure agreement.
“Dr. Tanner,” she purred, “sign this, and the money—and your freedom—are yours.”
Brian Tanner sat bound in zip ties, his medical bag discarded on the floor. Though five decades had honed his skill, never had he faced such deceit. “This is wrongful imprisonment,” he said, voice tight. “Release me now, or the Lewis family will answer for this.”
Helena’s grin widened. “Grandpa Lewis is cured, thanks to Nash. Don’t test me.”
Suddenly, the door splintered inward. Helena recoiled in fear as her security guards lay unconscious in the corridor.
“Nash…” she whispered.
Inspector Angelica and Chief Holt stormed in, pistols drawn. Justice had arrived—and with it, the promise of Brian’s rescue.
