Chapter 109
Nash strode over to Brian and ripped the zip ties from his wrists. “Is everything ready?” he asked, voice taut.
Brian rubbed his sore hands. “Cotton pith and porcelain bowls are here. I’ve contacted an old friend for the tiger-corpse oil—he should have delivered it to the Zells’ villa by now.”
Relief washed over Nash. “Why did Helena tie you up?”
Brian grimaced. “She wanted me to sign a non-disclosure agreement—to bury the fact that Grandpa Lewis was cured by you.”
Nash’s lips curled into a sneer. The old man’s memory would return soon enough, making Helena’s scheme pointless. Brian knelt to free his bound legs, then stood and met Nash’s gaze.
They didn’t waste another moment. With Jupiter Holt’s inspectors in attendance, Nash and Brian made for the exit. Helena dared not protest in front of so many officers.
Chief Holt cleared his throat. “Do you want us to bring her in?” he asked Nash.
“Send Dr. Tanner and me straight to the Zell villa,” Nash replied. Time was critical.
Angelica gave Helena a final warning. “Don’t think your Watson connections can shield you. Next time, even Walter won’t save you.”
Helena’s fury burned behind her eyes, but with inspectors surrounding her, she could only watch Nash go. Swearing under her breath, she sank back into her chair and summoned Kai.
Outside, an inspector drove Nash’s Maserati, while Brian’s apprentice—a gray-haired man clutching a flask of dark oil—stepped from a waiting taxi. “Old Tanner, here’s the tiger-corpse oil you requested,” he announced hastily. “Imported legally—I never harmed a tiger.”
Jupiter smiled. “Good to see you know the law.”
Brian accepted the flask and turned to Flores. “Thank you. How much do I owe you?”
Five-twenty, he said, producing a payment code. Brian transferred five-fifty. “We’re old friends. Consider the extra a token of gratitude.”
Flores scowled at the notification but pocketed his phone. “Well, I’ll buy you a drink next time.”
Brian waved him off. “Get back to your day. We’ve no time to waste.”
Moments later, Brian’s apprentice arrived with the cotton pith and porcelain bowl. Nash grabbed his medical kit from the Maserati and, together with Brian, hurried into the Zells’ manor.
In the crowd gathered at the entrance, Skadi spotted them and exclaimed, “Nash! What are you doing here?”
