Chapter 466
“Understood, sir,” Camilla replied, leaving the hotel room to investigate Ana’s influence over Olivia.
Inside, Olivia stood before the bathroom mirror, her hands gripping the sink tightly.
Ana had insisted she accompany Tyler on this business trip. In the past, Olivia would have agreed without hesitation, but this time, she was unwilling.
When she tried to refuse, Ana threatened Jacob’s job, knowing the tangled history between them.
Though Olivia had moved on from Jacob, she couldn’t bear risking his future. Reluctantly, she yielded to Ana’s demands, joining the trip despite her reservations.
Caught in this dilemma, Olivia wrestled with how to regain control. She knew she shouldn’t let Ana dictate her life, but she felt powerless.
Could she afford to antagonize Ana?
Taking a deep breath, she accepted the grim truth: that wasn’t an option.
The silence from the bathroom drew Tyler’s attention as he waited outside.
“Do you need help?” he asked quietly.
Startled, Olivia realized she’d been in the bathroom far too long. Releasing her grip on the sink, she emerged, forcing herself to compose a calm facade.
Tyler studied her pale face as she stepped out.
“Aren’t you here for a vacation? What’s wrong? Are you not adjusting to the climate?” His tone was flat but curious.
Olivia stood before him, anything but relaxed.
“No, I’m just not feeling well,” she admitted, the weight of her thoughts evident.
Tyler glanced toward her abdomen. “Rest if you’re unwell. Lie down on the bed.”
Realizing they were sharing the same space, Olivia hesitated, clutching her clothes nervously. “Where would you sleep if I took the bed?” she asked quietly.
Understanding her unspoken concern, Tyler scoffed softly.
“Just lie down,” he insisted before stepping out of the room.
Relieved by his departure, Olivia sighed again.
Outside, Camilla had just ended a call and turned to Tyler. “Sir,” she called softly.
“What did you find out?” Tyler asked.
“I spoke with a maid at your family residence. She mentioned a man named Jacob,” Camilla reported, slowing her pace. “It seems your mother found out about Mrs. Harris’s past relationship with him, which forced her to come with us.”
Tyler had suspected as much. Few things could sway Olivia—but Jacob was one of them.
Still, he was surprised by the lingering influence Jacob held, despite their relationship having long ended. Cynicism crept into his mind.
“You may leave,” Tyler instructed Camilla.
