Chapter 496
Olivia showed no reaction. She didn’t even lift her head.
“Olivia, it’s me! Your dad! Sweetheart, what’s gotten into you?” Darren’s voice trembled. He stood frozen, unable to reconcile this distant, withdrawn girl with the daughter he knew—his pregnant daughter.
The doctors watched closely, hoping for the slightest flicker of recognition.
But Olivia remained still, completely unresponsive.
Darren’s hands began to shake.
The doctors exchanged troubled glances. Their faces grew grim.
No father could easily accept this, no matter the circumstances of his daughter’s birth or the road she had walked.
Unable to hold back, Darren strode toward Tyler. “What is this?! Why is she like this? Why doesn’t she recognize me? I’m her father!”
Tyler met his gaze evenly. “The initial diagnosis is amnesia and mutism. But we’ll need more evaluations to be sure.”
“How did this even happen?” Darren demanded. “Wasn’t she living a peaceful life with your family?”
Tyler’s voice was calm, but somber. “The doctors believe she suffered extreme psychological stress—possibly over a prolonged period.”
Darren was stunned. He thought Olivia had been safe in the Harris household. But then again…
She was just a young woman—barely in her twenties—who had been forced to marry her sister’s ex-fiancé to save that same sister. And not just any marriage—it was into an elite, powerful family.
Who wouldn’t be crushed under the weight of such expectations?
Despite all his favoritism toward Naomi, Darren couldn’t deny the truth: Olivia was in this state because of what she had done for her sister. She had sacrificed her future, her peace of mind… everything.
Guilt overwhelmed him.
He broke down. “Oh God… I’m so sorry, Olivia…”
Camilla stepped forward gently. “Sir, right now the most important thing is to begin treatment. There’s still hope. But we need to take the right steps.”
A doctor stepped in. “Is there anyone else in the family who might be close to her? Someone she might not resist? If so, we need to try. Otherwise, further examinations might agitate her even more.”
Darren turned to Camilla. “Have the others been informed?”
“Yes, they’re on their way,” she nodded.
Just then, Naomi and Hillary arrived.
Hillary froze the moment she saw Olivia, her lips trembling. “W-What’s happening? How did it come to this…?”
Darren couldn’t answer. He could only sob, shoulders heaving with silent regret.
Alarmed by the scene, Hillary’s anxiety surged.
Naomi turned to Tyler hesitantly. “Um… Tyler…”
He studied her for a long moment, then finally said, “You should come in first.”
