Chapter 473
The high fever left Olivia too weak to stay awake, and despite the tense atmosphere, she slipped into sleep almost immediately. Tyler rose quietly from the couch once she drifted off.
At that moment, a hotel staff member entered, carrying a pail of water warmed to the perfect temperature. Tyler swiftly dismissed the staff with a nod, then retrieved a towel from the pail before returning to Olivia’s side.
Determined to soothe her, he gently began wiping her neck and forehead. Moonlight spilled softly through the window, bathing them both in a pale glow.
His gaze fixed on her, intense and sharp, yet layered with complex emotions.
He hovered over her like a lion watching its prey, the coldness in his stare softening as Olivia stirred slightly.
Carefully, he placed his hand over hers, which rested protectively on her stomach.
The following morning, Tyler left Olivia’s room at dawn and returned to his own.
Though he hadn’t slept a wink all night, fatigue did not claim him. He sank into a chair and lit a cigarette, the ember glowing bright in the dim room.
Camilla arrived promptly to start her day, approaching as he still smoked. “Sir,” she greeted.
He barely acknowledged her presence, asking sharply, “Was the mission completed?”
“It was finished last night at midnight. The villagers will sign along with the local cadre,” she reported.
Tyler’s eyes narrowed with purpose. “Make sure everything is executed properly.”
Understanding the gravity of the project, Camilla assured him, “Don’t worry. I’ll oversee every detail.”
Then she added cautiously, “The local media caught wind of Ms. Olivia’s presence here with you. They’re interested in interviewing her. It’s vital to maintain a positive impression among the villagers. I worry they might use her absence from yesterday’s event against you.”
Tyler crushed his cigarette in the ashtray, his tone cold and decisive. “Tell them she’s unwell due to pregnancy and won’t be available for interviews.”
He had no intention of exposing Olivia to the press.
Camilla nodded in understanding. “Of course. She should be resting. Though her presence could boost your image among the villagers. It might be advantageous if—”
Tyler’s piercing gaze silenced her.
After a moment’s pause, she added, “I understand.”
Noticing he was still in last night’s clothes, she remarked gently, “You should rest after caring for her all night.”
He gave no reply.
Just then, his phone rang. Camilla glanced at the caller ID, then looked back at Tyler uncertainly.
He let the call ring out until it stopped.
She hesitated to speak.
“You may go,” he instructed.
After a prolonged pause, Camilla said quietly, “Of course,” and left.
As soon as the door closed behind her, his demeanor turned icy.
Upon waking, Naomi attempted to call Tyler but received no answer. She sighed softly, setting her phone aside.
Having seen him on the news the previous night, she assumed he was busy with his trip and decided not to bother him further.
