Chapter 407
Olivia was surprised that Tyler hadn’t mentioned the incident. She lay back down, her body going limp as she buried herself in the bed, too restless now to sleep.
The next day, Tyler made no reference to what had happened. Olivia acted as if nothing was wrong, quietly going about her usual routine.
That afternoon, Ana sat on the couch, sipping her tea. She looked up and asked, “You’re going to that big charity event tonight. Did Tyler tell you about it?”
Olivia, just coming downstairs, blinked in surprise. “No, Tyler didn’t tell me.”
Ana frowned and set her cup down sharply. “What’s going on with you two? You can’t just sit back and do nothing as his wife. You need to attend these events. I’m too old for them now—you have to go yourself. Do I need to spoon-feed you?”
Feeling Ana’s irritation, Olivia replied carefully, “I’ll ask Tyler, Mom.”
Ana’s frown deepened, but she said no more and resumed sipping her tea.
Olivia headed back upstairs, treading carefully. She hadn’t seen Tyler since that morning and was completely unaware of the charity event planned for that evening.
Around three in the afternoon, as Olivia lay lost in thought in bed, there was a soft knock at the door.
She had been sleeping so much that she felt unwell and spent most of her time staring blankly into space.
“Come in,” she called quietly.
Linda entered. “There’s a charity banquet tonight. Mr. Tyler needs you to come with him. He’s been busy all day and forgot to tell you earlier.”
The charity event was organized by the local government and packed with business leaders. The Harrises were among the VIP guests.
As Tyler and Olivia entered, servers assigned especially to them promptly approached with greetings. A few familiar faces came over to chat as well.
Olivia remained quiet, following Tyler as he moved from group to group. Here, he was livelier than she’d seen earlier—in the car or at the party—wearing a faint smile and engaging easily with the guests.
The room was filled with journalists. Cameras flashed the moment Tyler and Olivia arrived, and Olivia found the bright lights overwhelming for her eyes.
Despite the flood of attention, she managed to stay composed. Being Mrs. Harris and recently in the news, it was expected the media would focus on her. Photographers continued snapping pictures even as she moved inside, and the thought made her nervous.
It wasn’t until Tyler finished his conversations that he finally turned to her. Lowering his head to avoid the cameras, he said quietly, “Let’s go.”
Olivia heard him over the noise and nodded.
Tyler stopped looking at her and led the way deeper into the venue. Olivia followed close behind.
Thankfully, journalists were not permitted past a certain point. Without cameras pointed at her, Olivia felt a wave of relief wash over her.
