Chapter 409
Tyler was simply informing Olivia, not expecting her to comment or get involved. After all, the matter concerned him and Naomi, and Olivia couldn’t help but feel like an outsider looking in.
She kept her thoughts to herself.
Noticing her silence, Tyler looked away, avoiding eye contact.
Meanwhile, Linda guided Naomi to her seat behind Tyler and Olivia. “Are you feeling okay, Ms. Naomi?” she asked gently.
Naomi smiled brightly. “Yes, actually, I feel better being out. Don’t worry—I’m fine.”
Linda was pleased. “That’s good to hear.”
Naomi’s voice softened as she hesitated, “Has Olivia… not forgiven me?”
Linda quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry. I don’t think she’s really mad at you.”
That seemed to ease Naomi’s mind. “I’m glad to hear that.”
Once settled, a staff member handed Tyler a booklet detailing the auction items for the charity event. He began to browse through it. Naomi received one too and smiled when she noticed him absorbed in the pages.
Olivia also received a booklet but didn’t open it. The auction items didn’t interest her; she barely understood them.
She knew it was Tyler’s prerogative to bring Naomi to the event. She was there only to keep him company. The auction was their focus, not hers.
Tyler spent quite some time examining the booklet, unaware that Olivia hadn’t even glanced at hers. Eventually, he handed it back to a staff member.
Naomi finished looking through hers around the same time and whispered something to Linda. Moments later, Linda approached Tyler with a serious expression under the venue’s dim lighting.
“Sir,” she said.
Tyler turned to her, attentive.
“Ms. Naomi mentioned the gold love locket looks nice,” Linda conveyed.
“How much is the starting bid?” Tyler asked.
“Two hundred thousand dollars,” Linda replied. “It belonged to a married couple who were buried with it during the Edwardian era. It’s engraved with ‘forever’ all over it.”
Olivia’s face grew somber at the mention of the locket.
Tyler’s expression was unreadable. He didn’t glance at Olivia to gauge her reaction. Instead, he simply said, “Bid on it then.”
“Okay,” Linda replied before quickly returning to Naomi’s side.
