Chapter 478

Ana scoffed upon hearing Camilla’s explanation. “Why did he bring you home? Just to put on a show for me?”

Camilla quickly stepped in, aware of Ana’s rising anger. “He couldn’t risk it, Ms. Ana. Ms. Olivia had a severe fever the other night. We need to get her to rest. It wouldn’t be good if it affected the baby.”

Ana’s glare cut through the room. “He doesn’t care about the baby, and neither do I. If the sickly one died because of the baby, I wouldn’t mind.” Her eyes flicked coldly to Olivia.

A chill ran down Olivia’s spine, as if she were trapped in an ice cave.

Ana scoffed again, louder this time. “Go back to your room. We’ll talk more later.”

Even Camilla felt the sharp threat beneath Ana’s words and continued to smile tightly, unwilling to say more.

Things hadn’t unfolded as Ana had planned. With Naomi out of her reach, she had turned her sights on Olivia—the perfect pawn. Camilla wasn’t sure whether to pity Olivia, who was trying to protect Naomi, or to stay neutral.

Olivia remained composed despite Ana’s cutting words.

“Okay, Mom,” she said softly before leaving the living room for her own room.

Camilla watched her go, a knot of unease tightening inside her.

Ana had her own ruthless way of dealing with defiance. Turning to Camilla with a cold smile, she said, “I’ll make sure she learns the consequences if she dares to defy me. She’ll learn what hell really is.”

Camilla shivered as Ana’s grin lingered in the air.

In truth, Camilla was worried. Everything was more complicated than she’d imagined. Olivia was safe for now—being pregnant placed some limits on Ana’s cruelty—but there was always the fear that Ana might snap.

What would Tyler do if Ana decided to take revenge on Olivia? Would he stand by Naomi or protect Olivia?

It was the hardest question Camilla could imagine.

Standing alone in the living room, she was lost in thought, her mind clouded by the uncertainty ahead.

Tyler, ever cautious, had sent Camilla home early to prevent Ana from reaching a breaking point.

Meanwhile, at the hospital…

Naomi took a slow stroll, pushing Emma’s wheelchair, when she spotted Camilla approaching with a pharmacy bag.

“Camilla?” Naomi called out.

Startled, Camilla turned and greeted her, “Ms. Naomi.”

Naomi frowned in confusion. “Weren’t you supposed to be on the trip with Tyler? Why are you here?”

Camilla hesitated briefly before replying, “I’m picking up folic acid tablets for Ms. Olivia.”

Naomi glanced at the tablets in Camilla’s hand, processing the news.

Since Olivia needed cord blood banking, she was having her check-ups at Naomi’s hospital for convenience. Delivering the baby there would also simplify preparations for Naomi’s upcoming surgery.

Naomi found it strange that Camilla was absent from such an important trip, yet here she was, attending to a seemingly minor task.

Still, Naomi masked her confusion with a smile. “I understand. How is Olivia doing?”

Seeing Naomi’s relaxed demeanor, Camilla couldn’t help but feel sympathy for Olivia. Despite Olivia’s loyalty, Naomi seemed to guard herself around her.

With a gentle smile, Camilla replied, “She’s five months pregnant now. Both she and the baby are doing well.”

Relief softened Naomi’s features. “That’s good… though she’s been ignoring me lately…” Her voice held a trace of sadness.

“I’ll talk to her for you,” Camilla offered kindly.

Naomi smiled gratefully. “Thank you.”

Camilla nodded and excused herself, citing her busy schedule.

After she left, Naomi turned to Emma. “Doesn’t it strike you as odd that Camilla is here?”

Emma smiled reassuringly. “Maybe she has something important to handle. Don’t worry—I’m sure Mr. Tyler can handle things.”

Satisfied with Emma’s words, Naomi stopped dwelling on it, and they continued toward the north building.

Back at home, Olivia had been bracing herself for Ana’s confrontation ever since returning from Vahari.

Yet, with no move from Ana, she resigned herself to the uneasy calm.

She knew peace was unlikely for the coming months.

Despite Ana’s silence, Olivia endured restless nights, plagued by nightmares and a constant grip of fear.
