Chapter 400
“I’ve decided to leave after the baby’s born,” Olivia said firmly. “There’s only a few months left, so I’ll tough it out. No need for concern or comments. This is my choice.”
Claude furrowed his brows, searching her eyes.
“Can you let me go now?” Olivia’s voice turned cold, as if breaking free from an invisible hold.
Just then, Dylan entered the room. Olivia seemed familiar to him, but he couldn’t place where he’d seen her before. He scanned his memory, but nothing surfaced. Setting down his wine glass, he stood up.
“Where are you off to?” one of his friends asked.
“To the bathroom,” Dylan replied, then left.
Walking down the corridor, Dylan glanced around but didn’t find who he was looking for. Turning a few corners, he spotted a man and a woman standing quietly in a corner. He stopped and stared.
“Olivia, you know you’re different from me,” Claude said softly. “The first time I saw you, my eyes shone because it felt like a ball of light was standing before me.”
He chuckled, but there was an unreadable weight behind his laugh. “I didn’t even realize how differently I treated you.”
Olivia listened but remained unmoved. Pregnant now, she knew exactly what to care about—and what to ignore.
“If you treated me differently, what about Morgan?” she asked, steady and direct.
She no longer avoided the name. Meeting Claude’s gaze, she added, “Considering your relationship with Morgan and the Harrises, do you really think this is an appropriate thing to say to me?”
Olivia looked away and gently pulled her hand free. Claude stood silent.
From a distance, Dylan caught every word.
He stared at Claude’s back and wondered, Was Claude confessing feelings to this woman?
When did he get involved with her? Dylan’s curiosity grew as he watched silently.
His eyes lingered on Olivia’s profile, the more he looked, the stronger the sense of familiarity grew—until a thought hit him.
Isn’t this the woman in the papers? The epicenter of the Harris family scandal?
The legendary Mrs. Harris? Dylan almost whispered the words, but stopped himself and bit his tongue.
Suddenly, his phone rang. Dylan glanced at the screen, his heart sinking at the caller ID. Without a word, he quickly slipped away.
Claude turned toward the ringtone but only caught a glimpse of Dylan disappearing out of sight, leaving him to squint in confusion.Olivia didn’t see Dylan either, but she heard the phone and glanced around—no one was there.
