Chapter 323

Olivia lay quietly in bed, looking up at Darren, who appeared exhausted. Her voice was soft but steady as she tried to comfort him, “Don’t worry, Dad. Naomi is a strong girl. She’ll pull through.”

Tears welled up in Darren’s eyes as he nodded. “I hope so too. But we won’t truly relax until she’s completely well. Hillary was devastated when she heard about Naomi’s condition… she even said she wished she could share her suffering. It’s a relief Naomi is better now—I honestly can’t imagine what would’ve happened if she hadn’t improved.”

Olivia’s gaze dropped briefly before she suggested quietly, “Make sure Aunt Hillary knows Naomi’s doing better and that she’ll keep getting better.”

Darren wiped his tears with the back of his hand and offered a tired smile. “I’ll tell her. By the way, I heard Naomi fainted outside your room earlier. What happened?”

Olivia’s lips trembled as she avoided his eyes. “Naomi…” she faltered, unsure how much to say. Then she whispered, “I don’t really know.” Her fingers nervously twisted the blanket over her lap.

Darren watched her carefully but chose not to press further. “It’s not important now. The main thing is she’s okay.”

“Mm-hmm, exactly,” Olivia agreed softly.

Trying to lighten the mood, Darren smiled awkwardly and said, “Olivia.”

She looked up, puzzled. “Yes, Dad?”

With warmth in his eyes, Darren shared his heartfelt thoughts. “After you have the baby, why don’t you come live with us? You can do whatever you want. If you want to study abroad, we’ll support you fully.”

Olivia was caught off guard by the offer. Though it sounded simple, she felt the weight behind his words. Both knew what he was really suggesting. She stopped fidgeting and gripped the blanket tighter.

Seeing her reaction, Darren continued gently, “You’ve been incredible, Olivia. Thank you for everything you’ve done for Naomi. She—and Tyler—will be grateful.”

Olivia understood. His love was deep, but it came with conditions. He wanted her to let go of the Harris family name after the baby was born.

She forced a small smile.

Concerned his intentions might be too obvious, Darren took her hands in his. “I mean it. It’s for your own good. Studying abroad could be a fresh start. Hillary and I will take care of the baby while you’re away. If you want, we can hire someone to help you too. Don’t worry about money—just focus on what makes you happy once the baby arrives.”

Olivia gently pulled her hands away but met his gaze with quiet assurance. “I know, Dad. Don’t worry. I have a plan. I won’t be a burden. I don’t want much.”
