Chapter 331
Olivia spent her days being wheeled around the garden by her maid or quietly chatting with Maisy in the living room downstairs.
Maisy was always thoughtful and careful not to mention anything that might upset Olivia. Yet lately, Olivia seemed noticeably happier, which brought Maisy a deep sense of relief. Her fondness and concern for Olivia grew stronger with each passing day.
Three days into Olivia’s stay at the Harrises, a nurse from the hospital came to schedule her fourth prenatal checkup. This appointment included screening for Down Syndrome.
That morning, Maisy was in Olivia’s room keeping her company when the nurse delivered the update.
Concerned, Maisy gently asked, “Are you going alone? Would you like me to come with you?”
Though Maisy cared for Olivia dearly, she knew her own age made it difficult to be constantly by her side. Olivia didn’t want to trouble her and replied softly, “I can manage on my own. It’s not a long process.”
Still worried, Maisy pressed, “Are you sure?”
Olivia smiled faintly and reassured her, “Yes, the maid will accompany me.”
Maisy’s eyes flickered with sympathy. “But Tyler would usually go with you,” she said, feeling sorry for Olivia.
Lowering her gaze, Olivia said quietly, “I’m really fine. I can handle this alone.”
Maisy sighed, finally relenting. “Alright, my dear. Call us if you need anything tomorrow.”
Olivia nodded in response. “Okay, Grandma.”
After confirming the appointment time, the nurse left. Maisy lingered a little longer but soon had to go when the maid reminded her to take her medicine.
As Maisy exited the room, she muttered under her breath, “This is ridiculous.”
Olivia wasn’t certain who the comment was aimed at but had a strong suspicion. She chose to ignore it, though the maid gave her a sympathetic glance.
