Chapter 379
The atmosphere had brightened enough for Olivia to regain some of her appetite. She managed to finish a bowl of soup.
Ana showed no signs of being passive-aggressive or hostile; in her own way, she was rather friendly. After breakfast, she helped Maisy out of the dining hall, with Olivia trailing behind quietly. The two began chatting on the couch, while Olivia listened from the side.
The afternoon passed uneventfully.
When Olivia returned to her room, her phone vibrated fiercely, shaking the entire table. The caller was Naomi.
She hesitated for a moment before finally answering.
“Olivia! Thank God you picked up! You gave me such a fright, I swear!” Naomi’s voice was anxious. “How could you not eat? You should always remember the last person you should ever hurt is yourself! Please don’t do that again!”
Olivia hadn’t expected her sister to be so worried.
Since the last incident, Olivia had been careful to avoid showing herself to Naomi, fearing it might trigger another episode.
Softly, she replied, “I’m fine, Naomi. I just… haven’t felt much appetite lately.”
“Don’t tell me you’re fine! These days, I worry about you more than I worry about myself! I even dream about you!”
Olivia’s grip tightened around her phone.
Naomi didn’t hesitate. “I can’t leave the hospital right now, so you should come see me instead. We need to talk!”
“B–But—”
“No buts!” Naomi cut her off firmly. “I want to see how my sister is doing with my own eyes. This is the only way!”
Olivia had no choice but to change her answer midway. “Alright.”
“Good. I’ll see you soon, then!”
Though uncertain if she could keep the promise, Olivia agreed anyway.
Ten minutes later, she told Ana she needed to step out briefly, without mentioning the hospital visit.
She was sure Ana would object; the shock from the last incident was still raw, and a new one could easily follow.
Surprisingly, Ana merely raised an eyebrow. “You’re visiting your family?”
“Y–Yes.”
Ana took a slow sip of her black coffee. “Sure. Go ahead.”
Olivia glanced at her skeptically, but Ana wasn’t looking at her.
“Thanks,” Olivia said softly.
With that, she left.
Ana waited until Olivia walked away, then pulled back the curtain slightly to watch her go.
The ride to the hospital took about twenty minutes. Olivia’s mind raced, and she couldn’t calm down. She stared out the window at the passing crowd, her thoughts spinning.
